Replacement Up Mini Filament Clip

Post by marto » Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:09 pm

I got a bit annoyed at the stock Up! Mini Filament Clip. So designed and printed a new one.

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34842

I added a slot for the tube which points it in the right direction and holds the filament in place. This means it won't pop out during printing which can end up with the filament coming off the reel and the print failing.

Enjoy.

Hi marto,

I like the model but I have my filament hanging to the side of a cabinet. The tube is also longer.
In short, I would like to get into the drawing. Do you mind sharing the file in *.sdlprt format?

Its in Solidworks 2012 so you will need a recent version. File is now up on thingiverse.

I think this should replace the standard one which is a little under designed.

Hi Steve, cheers for that. Do you happen to know where I can download a student solidworks 2012?

I used to have 2010 but in the process of install a student 2012 version I had to remove the 2010 first. Only to discover that the installation of 2012 was no good. Now I can't seem to install a student 2012 at all and I don't have the install disks for 2010 anymore. I'm looking at SCAD but I'm so used to drawing in solidworks. I just got the hang of it!! :?

Cheers, Matt

The no backwards compatibility is a pain. But I SCAD just still confuses me.

Drawing and programming are two different things in my head. I can export it as some alternative formats which you can import. Or really its not very hard to redraw from scratch.

Hi Steve, I got my hands on a SW2010. I will install this when I get home. Is there anyway to export/import between 2012/2010? As far as I know there is no such thing in 2010.

Nope you can't go down. Designed to force people to upgrade. I can export to IGES if that is better. Usually works better than importing stl.

Thanks for all the effort. I think it best to make a complete new design to fit my adjustments. I will put it on thingiverse when its done.
Without all the software ups and down I could have done it already. Thanks again ;)
