1.8.1.0 still does crappy overlapping rafts

Post by effgee » Tue Jun 20, 2017 1:54 am

Still in the latest version, it prints overlapping rafts for adjacent parts, then you hear the steppers struggling as it has to drive the nozzle over the double (or even triple) thickness raft.

This is a very basic thing, and should be fixed, I thought it was (claimed to be) fixed several versions ago.

My real vote is for Teartime to open up and allow use of 3rd party software like slic3r or simplfy3d, for improved control, and to get away from the neverending bugs in Upstudio.

Did you "merge" all the parts in the UP Studio before slicing?
Looks like you missed that step.

The overlap bugs me too.
The "Merge Model" function is greyed out.
Am I missing something?

I've got it now.
Ctrl + left mouse to select multiple objects, then merge.

I still don't understand why 'merge' is not a default action before slicing, without user interaction ?
How can a non-merged print ever be good ?

It can be good if you have 5 parts, and then after the first print has finished you want to delete only one of them and print again, or re-layout the build area.

I think at a minimum the SW should be able to work out that the rafts will overlap and throw a warning. But that would involve a preview, which we've asked for for years, but TT seem to have no interest or capability in adding. But hey, at least the filament icon spins round now
