UP Studio V1.0.0.4 Beta Update

Post by Tiertime-Jason » Thu Jun 30, 2016 9:34 am

Hi folks,

A beta version is released.
Win users, go to support section to download.
Mac users could update directly from Mac app store.

what's new:
1. Adjusted slicing algorithm to fix print quality problems.
2. Bug fixed - cannot use special characters to sign in inside software.
3. Changed printer default name to its serial number.

Enjoy!

upgrade does not work, must uninstall and then install :(

on the positive side, after uninstall and install of the new beta everything is there, all custom materials are there, user/pass for login .. so pretty nice :)

still starting printing as soon as nozzle temp reaches the target temp :(

Just noticed that it doesn't state that it's a beta on the download list.

Small bug.

Win 10 / UP Box / Studio 1.0.0.4 (*** EDIT - Sorry this was Win 7 not WIN 10 ***)

Uninstalled old version and installed 1.0.0.4 all OK.

Clicked on settings and then printer. SW gave spinning "wait" icon and then reported something along the lines of "No printer connected" but proceeded to put the correct temps and time remaining for the current job along the header, so it is indeed connected...

Going back into settings and printer again and 2nd time it has identified the printer and has shown an Icon and SN.

Cheers,
O.S.

finished first print
- visible ringing (normal print speed)
- better surface quality then in previous version .. waaaaaaay beter .. would say perfect if not for ringing (talking about side surfaces, top/bottom looks the same)
- maybe too early to say but the issues I had with some printed walls that were thicker before, looks resolved

so the only serious issue so far, that you didn't change so probably in future, is the pre-heat and post-heat of the bed .. ( but not a big deal, I'm working on external heater anyhow as I need more then 100C on bed)

One more thing, start from V1.0.0.4 the auto update function is the UP Studio, finally become functional.
So next time when you want to update, you can update to the latest version without the need to uninstall the old version.
Yeah! 8-)

Great to hear. I havent seen anything regarding the fixing of the pre-heat option. Has this been addressed (Ill download later today and check anyway) in this update or is it still a problem?

I concur with the feedback here. (With the whopping one part printed so far.)

(1) Surface finish (sides) much improved.

(2) Hole size restored.

I've printed the same part in 2.17, 1.0.0.0 and 1.0.0.4
This has a circular hole in the top face pointing straight down so its shape is determined purely by the path of the steppers, not the layers as a hole in the side would be.
In 2.17 the fitting it was designed for would drop in. In V1.0.0.0 it would need to be hammered in! :o In 1.0.0.4 it's back to dropping in. :)

(3) Raft separation wasn't so good, I was barely able to get it off (Black ABS+), this has been fine recently in 2.17 so was surprising. I'll re-cal and print another so possibly not an issue. Just wanted to note it and see what other users experienced.

(4) Merge issue resolved. The problem I had where I could not merge twice (button greyed out after first merge) did not occur in this version.

Requests:-

(a) Please add more copy qty options to the copy command. I wanted 10 of something so 1 + 5 + 2 + 2 was a bit tedious.

(b) Lay flat option, really important feature in my opinion.

(c) Stop with the silly transparent auto hide bar at the top. It's so transparent that the things underneath are more visible that the buttons on the top.

(d) If you really must keep the feature wheel thing then please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please have an option to expand it out into a buttons set that shows every button at once down the side of the screen.

Cheers,

wrt raft separation, I have no clue how UP! does the raft and first layer .. open source ones allow 1st temp to be for 1st raft layer, then 2nd temp for other raft layers, then 3rd temp for 1st object layer, then 4th temp for rest of the object layers ... 5th temp for bed temp during raft print, 6th temp for bed temp during rest of the print .. it would be super cool if we could define these 6 temps for a custom material .. really cool! I personally print raftless .. unfortunately can's use printbite as (especially after I installed Studio) bed temp is too low for printbite, and I hate replacing the kapton non stop so I used a 1mm alu plate, coated it with abs slurry and it works acceptable .. still the preheat would allow me to print larger parts but..

imho the 1st thing that now needs to be fixed in studio is preheat

Hi Jason

With 1.0.0.4 the perimeters are way better, but seam still problematic when perimeter has only 2 layers..... I will post some pictures later...
If the wall have more than 2 layers, the seam seems to be better. Can we have a option to make the seams aligned/random placed? 1.0.0.4 seems to place it random generating some walls with little dots in it.

The thin wall option still broken... but it was not in changelog as fixed, so I will wait.

Thanks once more for the temperature contol. Its wonderful !!

Clicking print preview shows no information for print time and material weight after the slicing. Took me a lot of restart to make it work.
I'm using UP Studio for Mac, downloaded from Mac App Store.

am I imagining it or "fast" print speed is now significantly faster then with 2.18/Studio1.0.0.0 ?

Some nice changes for the update. Seams look a lot better so the new slicing algarithm is definately an improvement. Pre-heat function still not working but wasnt in the update notes so no surprise there. Still get a bit frustrated with the wheel menu, while I would prefer a more traditional or ribbon menu (similar to 2.18), I think it will be something I eventually can get used to.
Would still love to be able to go preview the slicing layer by layer and also see the support, but all in all the software is moving in the right direction (would also still like an official way to use 3rd party slicers like Simplify 3d, but maybe thats pushing it at the moment!).
Havent experienced the raft seperation issues mentioned above, have tested with ABS on default setting and with eSun at 234 degrees and both have been fine.

Good job guys, keep it coming!

Another bug, the printed objects are not in the right scale. A 18mm wide object is printed as 17.82mm, on 2.18 it's printed in 18.02mm.

if someone else can print and meassure something we got confirmation.

Realised I was being dull on the merge issue...

In old non studio it was edit then merge. (No need to select anything as it merged what was on the bed.)

In studio you have to pre-select what you want to merge. Not obvious but once known this is better as it allows you to merge some but not all of what's on the bed if you wish.

never used "merge" - what do you gain by merging 2 objects on the plate? what's the difference to just printing them as is ?
