PLA extruding during model upload and strand is released before printing

Post by 3DSTB » Thu Feb 11, 2016 7:42 pm

When i send the model to the printer he starts to extrude the PLA. When the nozzle goes down to the bed a 5 to 10 cm strand is released. Since i know this i take the strand before the nozzle goes down. Is this normal?

This is normal for most 3d printers.

Yes this is normal with all plastics ABS or PLA or any others, as the extruder heats up the plastic in the nozzle expands and leaks out a little, removing this small string of plastic I call this "Picking the nose" of the extruder before printing begins.
Doing this can help keep your nozzle tip and heater block clean and you may have fewer "brown/burnt" spots in your prints.
