Printing with pla

Post by DaHai » Thu Jan 07, 2016 7:08 am

I am very.much interested in the up mini and up mini 2. But I want to print with pla as I already have a lot of pla spools.

I've read that people have has to mod the print head, install another fan, open the box to keep cool and hack the print temps.

Will it just not work right out of the box?
Is the mini 2 any better?

Thanks

Printinp PLA will work out of the box (using PLA settings) but when printing large or many objects the steppermotor is getting 2 hot for pla and it starts slipping.

Have 2 install a cooler mod yet because I print mostly with ABS (search thingiverse.com for different models)
Have read that using a standard desktop fan and put that in front of an open up! mini will work 2 but does not look nice :)

cheers

Look at the temperature soft-mod here.

Also get 2 extra 40mm fans (strong ones, not silent ones) and mount em to the back and front of the extruder.
This is what I use:

Thanks everyone!
I think I'll wait and see if the UP Mini 2 handles PLA overheating any better...

Interesting. I just finished a 17h PLA print job (using FormFuturas Flexifil PLA) without any issues or special cooling. Came out perfect. Used the Softmod with temperature around 215°C.

Flexifil is not PLA filament.

I had a sample of PLA (unsure which brand) and I had 0 problems with it.

Stuck to the print bed well and came out nicely.
