Heat Bed with PLA selected in Materials

Post by MarcoD » Sat Jan 02, 2016 9:36 am

Hi all, at the moment the only way I can get the Up Mini to heat the bed (when using PLA) is to select ABS in Materials Box, select heat bed, then when bed nice and toasty, select back to PLA and print the Job. The bed stops heating when PLA is selected.

My question is, is there a way to make the machine heat the bed when PLA is selected as the material ? or is it a software limitation.

Many Thanks.

Hi Marco, When printing PLA, the UP software doesn't heat the platform. Printing with PLA has no warping issues, it doesn't need platform heating. Thanks.

That is not true!
While PLA warps LESS than ABS, it still does warp / shrink!
Huge PLA prints sometimes start bending.
That said… medium sized ABS prints ALWAYS warp (except you have perfect heat in your build-box) :-)

I have the 3d party heat bed:

When printing with PLA-settings the heat bed starts to heat around 30 minutes after starting the print.
I can say this because the heat bed has leds which show the status (on/off and temp)

May tiertime can clarify this?
