Autocad and the UP

Post by John Nijmegen » Mon Dec 15, 2014 10:20 am

If I make a 3D drawing in AutoCAD, convert it to a STL file and then load it in the 3d printer is this much too large and falling outside the margins of the printer. Does anyone know how to get it to the correct size. The drawing in AutoCAD scale 1 signed on 1. I can scale objects in the printer software I know but that I lose the right size.

Regards, John

Hi John,

You do understand that the printer has an exact build size, if the part you design is larger than the build area you do understand it will not fit, right?

Is it about 3.14 times larger? Could be the difference between inches and mm.
Try to export your stl in mm.

3.14 is pi - 25.4 is Inches to mm.

I use CorelCAD ( Autocad clone ) and it works perfectly - just make sure what you export is exactly the size of the UP print area, has no negative space/dimensions and there isn't anything like text or other off-component parts you're exporting -

Right! Sorry, I was writing a sketch in openscad and kept Pi in mind for whatever reason.
Too much running in circles ;)
