Wanting to build Kid Robot like characters

Does anyone know any good model or CAD programs for Mac OSX, preferably something that's either free and simple to use. Any suggestions?

For both free and simple, you may want to try Tinkercad, https://www.tinkercad.com/ , which is browser-based and fairly easy for beginners to get into.

For free (for hobbyists) and powerful, Autodesk Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists, students, educators, and small businesses, http://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/overview . Fusion 360 is a serious professional-grade tool, with a learning curve (and price tag, if you don't qualify for the free license) to match.

One risk with both these products, like any online service, is that if the company ever stops supporting them or decides not to offer free licenses anymore, you may not be able to access your designs unless you had the foresight to export them first. As always you get what you pay for.

I would suggest Sculptris it's made by the people or guy who helped program Zbrush. The software is free and a immensely simplified version of Zbrush.

This would be good for modeling very organic shapes like head arms things like that, once those are modeled you can then import them into another cad like package and performs Booleans for arms if they need to be inserted in the body.

Hope this helps.
