[quote="woofy"]I see Beijing Tiertime Technology Co. Ltd is listed as being on stand E42 at the TCT show.
I'd bet anything the new printer is going to be unveiled there.

I'll take your wager - my money is on NY MakerFaire this weekend.

Tiertime,
or PP3DP.

I haven't been able to find a list of exhibitors for MakerFaire at all - do you have a link?

Thanks, Woofy, yes I'll be there. I might check out the pp3dp booth, but to be honest I'm going mostly for the Penis Wall: http://makerfaire.com/makers/the-penis-wall-3/

Thank you!!! I was pretty sure the picture changed, but being color-blind, I didn't want to swear to it. Maybe they are in the process of adding just a little more detail/color each day until it is fully revealed on the day they do the full release.
Thanks,

FallGuy

$1,900 for an Up with 255x205x205 build volume sounds like a compelling value. And out right before Christmas!

For me personally, I've always appreciated the "semi-open" design of the Up, where you can easily mod the printer and use third party filament but not have to wade into the swamp which is open source slicers. Granted, open source slicers have improved a lot in the past three years, but they're still not as good as where the Up has been all along.

So here's hoping that the Up Box still allows third party filament and tinkering, and they haven't gone the Makerbot route of trying to lock everything down.

If anyone has a chance to see it at the Maker Faire this weekend, here's my list of questions:

1) Will it allow third party filament?

2) Can the print head be modified easily, for example with a temperature control?

3) Will it share key components with existing Up printers, like the print head?

4) Is the platform properly heated and not that halfway thing they did with the Mini?

5) Have they done anything to address problems printing with third party PLA?

6) What happens to the Up Plus 2? (At only $250 less, the Plus 2 seems like a poor relative value, so they may need to drop the price of the Plus 2 if they want to keep selling them.)

Also curious to hear from anyone who can compare it to the Zortrax, which seems like the most similar printer already on the market in the same price/capabilities range.

The print head has a black cover, but looks like a different design. The build platform is thick...ceramic maybe? It looks like there is a large diameter X axis rod near the front door. Cant see any power or interface connectors. Just some vague observations from the youtube video. :?:

I'm not sure what to make of the video--it's not clear that it's even a real unit (vs. a rendering).

With luck, someone who knows the Up will see it in person this weekend and report back.

specs and stuff on the NZ site:

500g spool of ABS in the box - is that a smaller starter roll, or is it a smaller form factor overall, I wonder?

I really hope it's not a smaller form factor. Seems silly to increase the build volume so dramatically and then reduce the spool size - you won't be able to do a big print without changing spools in the middle!

The thing I'm most worried about is that it might only accept a certain size spool. It sort of looks like they have a spool slot that might be designed only to accept "official" filament.

IMHO that would be much worse than just sending 200g less on your starter spool. The starter spool isn't going to last that long anyway.

It looks like we may be able to leave the Side Cover Off and use a standalone Spool Holder.

This would be the only way to cater for non genuine filaments.
