Glass Bed working on the UP! Mini (with ABS)

Post by tuna9351 » Mon Aug 25, 2014 6:26 am

So I managed to get a borosilicate glass bed to work pretty well with the up mini - without any temp mods. Considering that the up mini's temp for the bed is ~60 C I was a bit worried the ABS wouldn't adhere, and I knew it wouldn't with such a low temp vs the up plus's higher temp. I was still waiting on my order of Kapton tape, so I decided to try the gluestick method (using 'bluestik' brand), and a bit of calibration for the platform, and it worked bam! It was still done with a raft but I was amazed it worked and hardly any noticeable warping, and It popped right off without difficulty after I let the platform cool for a bit. This isn't so much a post to 'confirm' that it works 100%, but it's definitely possible. How I did it, was just preheat the bed for at least 30 mins, and wack at least 2 layers of glue on it and let it dry enough to allow for some contact surface.

check out that smooth flat bottom.

Try the Elmers purple, non toxic, water soluble, children safe glue-stick, that I has worked best for me.
