Bad use of 3D printing

Post by printerion » Thu Mar 27, 2014 10:08 pm

Have you read article about 3D printed ATM skimmers? I've read it here: http://www.3dprinter.net/warning-3d-pri ... tails-atms
Maybe it's a little stupid, but I'm wondering why people do that things. That's why new technologies are so slowly developed. The same as bitcoins... great opportunities, but also great for black market...

They were doing exactly the same using vacuum formed plastics long before 3D printers were used. Why should we be surprised that the crime world jumps on technology like any aggressive business. It's all overblown in the news though and use like this is not and should not hold back 3D printing. I am sure there is nothing more useful to criminals than the mobile phone - especially smartphones and most skimming happens away from teller machines.

Maybe I've just got bad day ;) or I'm an idealist but I'm still thinking about all evil of our world... and wondering "what will be next?" You are right - smartphones are more useful to criminals. Especially mobile payments.
