In the market for another 3d printer

Post by Carnivore » Wed Mar 05, 2014 3:50 pm

I have the UP Plus 2 and it's great but the print area is too small. I was thinking about getting a second printer for larger prints. Can anyone suggest a larger printer that's under 850? Please state the print area and accuracy.

I think at $850, you're talking kit territory with "much assembly required." Maybe the largest Printrbot would work? I think the build plate is 8-in x 8-in, so maybe 200 mm a side? No idea about accuracy, though, nor software.

I was looking the the Makergear M2 before I bought my used Up Plus. The construction looks great, but is $1400 if bought as a kit.

That DeVinci looks interesting.

However, my new policy after getting screwed around with for 9 months is that trying to save a few hundred is a false economy. I got an M2 and should have done it a year ago. It has been running non-stop. I wanted to believe there was something better for less money, but there is not. The company who have claimed so have all turned out to be wishful thinking. That *is* what a 3D printer (that works) costs.

I just ordered a Flashforge printer, it's a clone of the Makerbot 2X.
Looking forwards to the much larger print volume and twin extruders.

Hi
Good on you Bizilla. I have the older wooden casing Flashforge and the print quality is excellent. Using Makerware instead of Replicator G will give fast slice times and great prints. I have also looked at their new model and am tempted
Whatever everyone should do is stay awat from Mbot 3D printers. I have a Cube 2 that give only very ordinary prints. I had a problem with it and the Australian supplier did as much as they could to improve it but the backup from Mbot in China is ... well ... isn't.
