You get similar print results with PLA but you will not get the warping. Only the Colorfabb seems really easy to use in the Up as many other PLAs fail on long prints due to softening (from extruder motor heat) and jamming. Of course, there are cooling mods listed on the forum to get past this (mostly using an air pump). But PLA is a grat option where warping is causing issues.

Am I forced to do the resistor mod on the extruder when using pla?

Are those Miniature bottles worth to buy? And about acetone I guess you don't need to store it for long time, always get a new one and used it for a month.

I bought a huge bottle of acetone for $1.50 from walmart.
