Re: Printing Questions. Warping etc

how do u figure out the best printing resolution? based on how quickly you want to print the part? or how intricate it is? The answer to both is yes. 0.3 resolution will print quicker than 0.25 as there are 20% more layers to put down. If you have detail you want to keep in the Z plane of the model...

Re: Newbie Software Question (How to disable supports)

how exactly do you modify a given stl to have no overhangs abovd 10 deg? You could try something like MeshLab to edit the mesh but I think it'd be really difficult. An .STL file is only a collection of triangles so any kind of editing is slow and painful. The best way would be to get hold of the or...

Re: Printing ABS directly on glass

I knew it could be done! I did actually get some better results with the perf board, still using a raft, after a proper clean up with acetone and a good bed warm up...but still finding the stresses during build will pull the model off the top bit of the raft (the interface layer ?) - even though the...

Re: UP software V1.16 and Mac V1.3

A check box in printing dialog, with option to auto preheat platform before printing during 15 mins +1 for that - by the time I get round to printing after turning on the preheat, it has gone cold again. It'd be good if the nozzle started heating after say, 13 minutes so it's all ready to go after ...

Re: Newbie Software Question (How to disable supports)

Another really useful feature would be the ability to preview the model +1 especially for something that's going to take hours to build. I'd have thought it would be quite trivial to render the slices on screen when asking for a print preview (rather than sending them to the printer) This would be ...

Re: Compairing cubify to up, any thaoughts?

I just read on a blog that the Cube's filament 'cartridges' have a PCB on them. Which I take as meaning only Cube filament can be used (like with ink cartridges / toner) @Minestorm - can you post a link to that please ? IMO This would be a big negative of the Cube (apart from the obviously poorer q...

Re: What's the latest on 3rd party plastic and filament hold

The only problem I have seen so far is that the non-UP plastic seems to print best at a slightly lower temp That's what I've found with other coloured ABS. The main problem being that you can't separate the model from the bottom interface, apart from that the prints came out fine. I've found that s...

Re: Solidoodle 2 vs. UP!

For me, Up is worth a significant premium because the software actually works and is relatively easy to use I agree 100% - (almost) anyone can build a cheap 3 axis machine and tell you how to install and configure all the opensource stuff you need to make it work (Arduino drivers, Python, Skeinforg...

Re: Printing ABS directly on glass

I've printed some pretty big models this way without any lifting I'm having issues with large models lifting off perf board so might give the glass + abs glue a try. Did you still have the table heater on when printing on glass by the way ? I should make a model for lifting/warping stress testing I...
