Re: Skewed print

Ok I am working on the calibration. The UP calibration is the goofiest thing I have seen in a while. Absolutely no provisions for side to side deviation, only front to back. Wasting a lot of plastic figuring out what they call negative and positive deviation. Also the book says look for right and le...

Re: UP Mini extruder filament guide mod

Just an update on the guide mod. I have been using the printed guide mods I designed for quite a while now and they do solve a lot of issues. The only issue is that the fail regularly and need to be changed. But until they fail I get great prints. The failure rate is acceptable compared to the jammi...

Re: Skewed print

Also your issue looks like the perf board or print head is moving during the print process. Look for a gap between the magnets on the print head. My issue has the entire model gradually skewing to the right causing all my models to lean and be out of square.

Re: Skewed print

I have the same issue. I am getting prints that are skewed to the right. Something is moving as the build plate moves on the Z axis.

UP Mini extruder filament guide mod

I posted this here because I get to help way more folks like me get their Minis working when I post here. I have redesigned the filament guide (nylon piece inside the extruder with the small bearing) for the UP Mini extruder which has made my Mini print with far less issues than ever before. Here is...

Re: Have printer a few months. Still no good heating solutio

The only problem with the hotter heat bed is some of the smaller models dont tolerate the heat as well as larger models (depends on the quality of the filaments as well) and can stay very soft for the first 20 or so layers. It can lead to failed prints or distorted prints. A small switch wired to th...

Could you post a picture of the area of the model you are concerned with?

Re: Have printer a few months. Still no good heating solutio

Yes it is a shame they sell the printer this way but for a few dollars and some very basic soldering skills you can have a very good printer. Replace the temperature switch on the underside of the heated build plate and solve many of your problems. Email me and I will send you detailed instruction l...

Re: Replaced my extruder completely

After some more experimenting I have found that the teeth on the smaller extruder gear from the mini are just to sharp to work properly. Whenever the filament resists the flow the Mini gear digs in to the filament and I get a jam. There is very little heat in the new extruder so I can't blame the ja...

Re: Replaced my extruder completely

Ok, printed a couple of models with the Mini extruder gear and I'm getting missing layers and general mayhem. So the larger goes back into the new extruder and I'm done for now.

Re: Replaced my extruder completely

Update: I measured the Mini extruder gear against the new extruder gear and came up with a radius difference of 1mm. The new extruder gear measures 5.5mm radius and the old Mini gear is 4.5mm radius. I removed the new larger gear and shoved the Mini gear on and it is a good press fit. I aligned the ...

Re: Replaced my extruder completely

Not sure if the gear is the same dimension or not but it seems to work good. The support seems a little harder to remove but that might something else. Can't wait to try it with some good filament.

Re: Replaced my extruder completely

Getting filament in and out of the new extruder is slick. Just push down on the tensioner lever and either insert or pull out the filament. You can push in new filament all the way to the nozzle if you used the "withdraw" feature in the UP software.

Re: Replaced my extruder completely

Also the stepper motor never gets above room temperature. Its probably due to the insulation on the hot end. There is a tiny setscrew in the hot end that is used to hold the thermocouple in place. You have to use the UP Mini thermocouple or the UP software freaks out.

Re: Replaced my extruder completely

Only thing I had to change was the filament tensioner spring and bolt length. I basically took out the spring and bolt, put a piece of filament through the extruder and measured the space between the tensioner lever and the bottom of the housing where the tensioner spring sits. I turned down the spr...
