Re: Base plate heating is low in the end.

Rather than keeping a very weak solution of ABS/Acetone, I have a sheet of old ABS, made up by dissolving waste ABS parts/support in some MEK then leaving it to harden in an old ice cream tub. Then just before printing, when the platform is warm I pour a little MEK (or Acetone) onto a paper towel a...

Re: 3M Blue tape... new style = bad?

Rub it on a few minutes before printing, it is basically dry but the hot plastic makes it stick right away, just make sure it is water washable or you will have a mess, test first!
Can you order it online?
I use it on my "UP Plus Pro" with a glass bed and my "Zortrax M200 Pro" with a perforated bed.

You should try Elmer's washable glue stick, purple to clear or what ever is equal in your part of the world, works great on glass and all other surfaces, holds all plastics even Nylon, easy to wash off, easy to get, cheap.

Re: Up Studio

A few initial issues I've seen. 1. Loss of ability to "pan" using the right mouse button along with rotate and zoom. 2. If using an "Icon" interface have a text explanation "pop up" when hovering the cursor over icon buttons. 3. Loss of ability to "pre-heat" platform before printing. 4. unable to re...

Re: Software temp vs hotend temp

This a truly classic case of what happens with and "all metal" hotend, the PLA can swell as it warms up and it will stick to the side walls of the steel barrel, this is why most machined build for PLA use a PTFE (nylon) tube or insert for the hotend, I switched to a Recreus hot end for my "UP Plus P...

Re: Inital Printing Errors

If your build plate is even slightly bent or lifting in any areas it will cause an increase in back pressure and "strip-out" (no feeding) during the first layer, if your extruder is prone to strip-outs it can be due to blockage in the nozzle again causing increased back pressure, if your extruder pr...

Re: Zero warping mod

You should keep a steel brush handy to give the hot-end and nozzle a quick cleaning before each print after everything has heated up before printing, it works wonders to keep all those brown spots from appearing in your prints after the oxidized plastics flakes off your extruder. They can be found i...

Re: Problematic filament

Sounds like you are trying to print with PLA, that will never work 100% on an stock Afinia printer, you need to change the "all metal" hot end out for "Recreus" style barrel, it has a PTFE nylon insert that helps the filament pass through, when PLA gets warmed up a little is "swells" a little and wi...

Re: Nozzle throat fix

I had access to our machine shop and was able to in about 1/2 hour make a new heater block for my "UP Plus Pro" with a scrap piece of aluminum and just a chop saw, drill press and then a 6mm and a 4mm tap. I was upgrading my Recreus extruder and needed a little more thread engagement on the nozzle a...

Re: PLA filamet problem

15 minutes is about the time it takes the extruder motor to get warmed up the temperature is high enough that it can begin to pre soften the PLA filament that's when the strip outs will occur and no feed will happen you need an air cooling mod to your motor and feeder gear, look up my modifications.

Re: Recreus direct fit hot end for Afinia/Up Plus

Drew, It was thanks to your posts and comments about Recreus that I started looking at them and eventually found this custom part advertised, which is by the way, nothing but what you did with their regular hot end. Thank you for all you do! Gonzalo. You are welcome and enjoy! Let the kind people a...

I bought the Recreus before they made this version so I had to mod my UP Plus Pro to fit, I LOVE it!
