Re: Another filament cooling mod

I tried putting several layers of thin adhesive PTFE tape over the extruder block where it is in contact with the filament to try to reduce the heat transfer and it seems to help. You can also pull a teflon pad off the bottom of an old mouse and try using that if it's the right thickness. It won't f...

MadeSolid PET+ filament

MadeSolid recently sent me a free sample of PET filament and asked me what I thought of it. I figured I'd share my initial impressions here since others may find it useful. I've only used it for a few days, but it has already become my favorite filament. It prints really well on Up printers and fixe...

Re: Has anyone upgraded from an Up Plus to an Up Plus 2

When I replaced my broken heater cable, I put a couple sheets of thick vellum between the cable and the upper metal part of the arm to insulate the cable and reduce the friction. I also put some strain relief between the cable and the corner where it broke. My new cable has lasted twice as long as t...

Re: Wall thickness - single line?

Thanks!

That's really good to know about the orientation. I had noticed walls less than .8mm were sometimes unreliable, but didn't know why, so I just stopped using anything thinner. Looks like I need to try more rotated test prints.

Re: Full layers not meeting edges in 1.4 (presumably 1.18 to

I'm using 1.18 and get similar gaps sometimes. I think in my case it happens when my platform is too low when I'm printing raftless. If it's too high, I end up with too much fill, making the outline wobbly. I don't know if that's the same as what you're showing though. In your case the material seem...

Re: Wall thickness - single line?

Here's the thicknesses I get, modeled vs measured: 0.1 to 0.4 -> no wall 0.5 -> 0.86 0.6 -> 0.94 0.7 -> 0.96 0.8 -> 1.01 0.9 -> 1.03 1.0 -> 1.06 1.1 -> 1.12 1.2 -> 1.27 1.3 -> 1.38 1.4 -> 1.46 1.5 -> 1.64 1.6 -> 1.61 1.7 -> 1.74 1.8 -> 1.82 1.9 -> 1.94 2.0 -> 2.03 I usually try to avoid wall thickne...

Re: Solution to Warping

I'm using an "Elmer's Extreme" glue stick, it washes off without any residue and applies smoothly. I was using a really old Avery glue stick before that was kind of gummy and would leave a texture on the bottom of the print. Glue stick on 1/8" polycarbonate seems to work better for me than on glass,...

Re: Mood Ring Plastic, Coolest Ever!

I just noticed that the green/yellow color retains it's original green color much better if it's printed at a lower temperature (I'm using a 12 ohm resistor, so it's probably around 230 degrees). I haven't tried it with the grey/natural one yet.

Cool! I'm looking forward to trying this. The cold weather has been warping more of my prints lately.

Now shipping, mine just arrived. I've only done a couple of prints, but so far It has worked really well in my Afinia/Up Plus (mine has the pen clip extruder / air cooling mod).

Re: Filament Regular , Colored and Clear

I'd love to hear feedback on the colour changing stuff. I haven't used the Afinia color changing plastic, but I have a couple of color changing plastics (grey/white and blue-green/yellow-green) from repraper. Both print very well in the Up, very much like the octave and afinia plastics I've used. T...

Thanks! It's working for me too. I've needed to put down more glue than shown in the video, but I've been using a really old glue stick and applying it directly to a glass plate.

Re: Clearance for plastic hinges

yeah, I've definitely noticed changes with layer height. The type of plastic sometimes makes a small difference as well (some of them spread out a bit more than the OEM filament), so I usually do the test prints with the same settings and same plastic as the final piece. Sometimes you can reinforce ...

It worked for me on an old laptop installed with Windows 8 (non-Pro). I had to manually install the drivers for the printer through the device manager.

Re: Printing solid models, how?

I'll sometimes add a really thin gaps in the solid parts (about 0.05mm thick) to encourage the software to put in extra support ribs. The software will generate a shell around the gaps and the gap is thin enough that it fuses together. It's great for adding extra support around screws or to add inte...

Re: The raft is really hard to remove after update

You might also check to see if your print settings got reset with the update. If your Print->Support->Dense setting is large, you could try reducing it to 2 layers. I'm not sure which of the other settings may affect support material removal.

Re: Where can I find the non-powered filament guide?

If you're looking for the combined spool/filament guide that usually comes with the printer, the up software creates a directory with the printable parts. On my computer it's at: C:\Program Files (x86)\UP\Example\UP Plus Spare Parts\Spool Shaft V11.UP3 But as pleppik said, you'll probably find bette...

I used a small speaker cover to reduce the volume. I uploaded the stl file to thingiverse in case anyone else wants to do the same.
