Re: $500 for an Up! Mini!

Many thanks for a very balanced contrib, Roller. All of your points are well made. I can't help but think nobody would have cause to start a thread like this if those in a position of influence over these matters saw things with your clarity and insight. Two words Tiertime would do well to Google: U...

Re: Polycarbonate print platform

For those wishing to experiment with Polycarbonate build plates I have a suggestion. PC is really easy to cut if you know how. Score along the line both sides to a depth of about 10-20% of total thickness. Hold the PC on a flat surface like a table with the line along one edge of the surface and ben...

Re: $500 for an Up! Mini!

Many thanks, Joseph, for your reply. It is good to hear from you. I might say that frustrations may not run so high if Tiertime were to take a more active part in the community. As with any company Tiertime must endeavour to strike a balance between devoting resource to future sales and to current u...

$500 for an Up! Mini!

Well, I guess that anyone who's considering buying an Up! plus 2 will be happy to hear about 3D Printing Systems giving away an Up! Mini with every plus 2 and their 40% discount on the Mini at $632AU is likely to be attractive to some potential 3D printer buyers. I, however, have seen the resale val...

Re: Enabled PLA printing with easy stepper motor cooling

Good job Printmo! I might be giving that mod a try! Just one thing about this whole subject that kinda irks me and I think contributes to this problem: When the printer is in its initialised state. Just sitting there, waiting for you to tell it to do something, the extruder stepper is energised. Now...

Re: Hi from London

Hi 777Flyer. Are you using the proprietary PLA? I had some success with 3rd-party ( Faberdashery ) PLA but it was always hit'n'miss so I stick with ABS on my Mini nowadays. I've recently started using other filaments but didn't bother with the standard nozzle and use the Recreus nozzle for anything ...

Hey John!

Sounds like a great application for 3D printing. Have you got any pics you could share with us??

Re: Very weird model shift issue

I count myself as by no means the most experienced Up! user on this forum but I have experienced this issue once or twice on my Up! Mini and it came down to something very simple: One of the bulldog clips that holds the perf board onto the build plate had fallen into the workings of the front-to-bac...

Nice one, John!

Just what I'm looking for. IF you have the ability to password protect individual files.

I'm scanning kids at my local school and the parents are concerned that images of their kids will be public.

Please PM me.

Thanks

Re: Is my printer faulty?

This kind of thing can happen when part of the print starts to peel up from the build plate and gets knocked around by the nozzle as it moves around. First thing to do is make sure The platform is correctly and accurately calibrated. Then watch the next print carefully. At least for the first hour o...

Re: Pyrex (borosilicate glass) supplier, UK

News on my £15 borosilicate plates. Arrived at my workshop yesterday to find my print finished perfectly but the glass plate cracked down the middle I could see from the bottom that the mini-rafts had actually torn small pieces out of the surface of the glass as well. The print was 6 parallel pieces...

Re: Just wondering about replacement CPU cost...

Yup. I saw that. Go figure, eh? If my Up! Mini control board died, I'd convert the thing to a RAMPS 1.4 set-up. The whole thing wouldn't cost you more than $100, complete with an LCD display. Of course, you wouldn't be able to use the Up! software. You'd need to go open-source. But would that be suc...

Re: Have printer a few months. Still no good heating solutio

Yeah! Well, that went pretty well! :-D I printed a 16mm thick triangular plate about 80cm on a side and, while one of the tips had lifted slightly, it was a really pretty good print. Considering I was printing on borosilicate with UHU Purple glue, there were a whole lot of variables but it worked ou...

Re: Have printer a few months. Still no good heating solutio

Well! I managed to get a couple of 90 degree temp switches and the soldering was easier than I'd expected. Had to come home to eat but my build plate was glowing gently when I left my workshop. If it hasn't been burned to the ground tonight, I'll let you know how it went. :-D

Re: Have printer a few months. Still no good heating solutio

Ya know, I kinda took for granted the fact that the heated bed on my Mini heated up to 100C. I've been persevering for about a year with my printer and have had varying results. Could easily be that the build plate simply isn't getting hot enough. I'd like to see your mod too, Jeeplvr. Will PM you m...

Re: Pyrex (borosilicate glass) supplier, UK

Hiya,

I bought a couple of plates of 3mm Borosilicate 130 x 140mm from..

http://www.chiswellfireplaces.com

They were £15 each but work very well indeed, with UHU Purple-to-white.

Cheers!

Fancy making a few bob?

Hi guys, 3Dhubs is a Dutch website that provides a link between people who need 3D printing services and owners of 3D printers. They've reached their critical mass of hubs registered in several cities in the Netherlands and Belgium but London needs at least two more hubs to unlock. If you're interes...
