Re: WORKING: SOFTWARE TEMP MOD - ADJUSTABLE LAYER HEIGHTS !

@printmo I have the same setup. The PLA problem is that the filament in the extruder-part gets too warm too quickly and then transport fails. Thank you for the explanation, I'm aware of the PLA problem and its cause. I managed to get about 7 hr of continuous PLA printing out of my machine with one ...

Re: WORKING: SOFTWARE TEMP MOD - ADJUSTABLE LAYER HEIGHTS !

Checked back after a long time and the reverse engineering has gone crazy on the up! Awesome work mr_x and Forsaken :D! This was a long awaited (and never implemented feature by pp3dp) for the up software! Chapeau! Getting a proper slice preview of the whole part is also very helpful to create parts...

Re: Enabled PLA printing with easy stepper motor cooling

UPDATE: Added a bunch of stuff, first of all http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:413198, secondly heat sinks and finally a more powerful fan 7000 rpm (13,6 m^3/h or 8 CFM), for details check the pictures! Done this addons just for more security because I recently discovered that 27°C or 81°F is the upp...

Re: Another filament cooling mod

The diameter of the fan is not the only parameter, the power (airflow) is crucial as well. Use a high power 40 mm fan to increase the print time. In my case I used a 5800 rpm fan (12 m^3/hr or 7 CFM) and achieved a print time of approx 7 hrs @ 27° C or 81 F ambient with Innofil3D PLA filament.

Re: Another filament cooling mod

I think it is easier to get 12V for a fan from the connectors on top of the print head than to use the 20V from the back of the printer. There is plenty of power available on the 12V. Well, that was what I was planning to do, but I found that the 3 pin connection on the right side of the top of the...

Re: Another filament cooling mod

Heat sinks on the back of the stepper won't work very limited space, try to put them on the side, the back is only a bearing shield, the main heat source is the sheet metal stack (painted black) because of the iron losses. With heat sinks on the sides (approx. 5 mm space) you can try to fix the inne...

Re: Another filament cooling mod

Yes that's right I'm cooling the stepper as well. I discovered this design after I published my design. A problem with Thing 200072 might be that there is not enough airflow around the motor, the vent holes look pretty small and there is only a small air path around the motor itself. You basically h...

Re: Very difficult to remove from cellboard

I had no use for the cutter PP3DP included so I equipped it with a shortened wire of a paper-clip to toss out the remaining bits of plastic or sometimes the entire raft from the back if it is stuck on the perfboard. Sand the edges of the wire to make sure you don't damage the board. After a while th...

Re: Is there a way to print using Up Plus 2 without a PC?

Yes of course the printer has an internal SD-card you can disconnect your pc, even close the software (or shutdown your pc) after reconnecting with the printer all the stats (layer nr. and remaining print time) will be updated.

Re: Another filament cooling mod

Hey Julia, thank you for your comment 1.) I think you are referring to this part: Thingiverse ==> /thing:253694 2.) No they don't offer STLs. I basically took measurements on the supplied cover (fortunately metric and a good guess), then build it in CAD exported it as STL and overlapped it with the ...

Re: Another filament cooling mod

Hey, check out my stepper motor cooler. This mod enabled flawless 7 hrs (probably more, simply had not enough parts :D ) PLA printing in a pretty hot environment @ 27°C ambient 9 K above the recommended printing temperature! ==> http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:390993

Enabled PLA printing with easy stepper motor cooling

Now, after several hours of continuous PLA printing (approx 7h @ 27 °C / 81° F ambient) with my Up Plus 2 3D printer and a lot of PLA failures due to clogging (by PLA overheating) in the past (with software v2.11 and v2.12), I am now able to print (3rd-party) PLA flawless on the printer (have not t...
