Re: Rapidly Blinking Light

Thanks, Jason. If I get frustrated I'll try the current Windows version. I'm on a Mac but I can run Windows software via Parallels.

Rapidly Blinking Light

On about every 10th print attempt my Up H479 (yeah, I know it's old, but it's still a workhorse) starts blinking its front panel light rapidly. To restore its sanity I have to disconnect the printer, quit and restart the Afinia application, reconnect the printer, initialize, heat bed, reload model a...

Re: Questions from new Up Plus 2 user

You should check level and nozzle height when you first set up the printer. You do not need to check it after each print or whenever you turn on the printer. If you have trouble with prints sticking too well or not sufficiently, or if your prints look uneven, recheck level and nozzle height. The Ex...

Re: How is the Mac version compared with the Windows version

I use the Mac version regularly. Its feature set is more limited than the current Windows version, which I've also used. As I recall, on Windows, you can see extruder and bed temps from the main window, not just the Maintenance window. As to your installation problem, what version of Mac OS X are yo...

Re: BuildTak

From the BuildTak site FAQ:
Works with ABS, PLA, HIPS, PET+, Brick, Wood & Flexible (TPE) filaments; additionally we have had success with getting nylon and t-glase (PETT) to adhere when used with a thin layer of washable glue stick on the BuildTak surface.

Re: BuildTak

BuildTak works great for me on the Afinia in an Octave enclosure. I use it for all my prints, both ABS and PLA. Less fussing than hairspray, glue sticks and painter's tape, and very consistent good results. The Afinia-branded BuildTak is pricey though. I buy bigger sheets in quantity directly from B...

Re: Temperature Control

Thanks. That’s what I suspected but I wanted verification. So those temperatures could more accurately be stated as percentages of the base temperature (266 for ABS or 200 for PLA)? Playing a bit with a spreadsheet I get this conversion:
ABS-PLA Temps.jpg
Temperature conversion table for ABS and PLA with Octave Switch

Is this correct?

Temperature Control

After printing lots and lots of ABS with my Afinia, I just started printing PLA filament. For the ABS, I use a temperature control switch from Octave to fine-tune the extruder temp. Settings on the face of the temperature control are 266, 250, 243, 236, 229, 220, 215 and 209, all in degrees C. I kno...
