Build platform heating element keeps burning
Hi guys.
I have 5 afinia printers, 4 of them were purchased just few month ago, another one i have for more than a year now.
New printers have redesigned heating elements for build platform, so it should be more reliable, but unfortunately it gives me much more problems.
After just about a month after i got new printers, all heating elements burned out, tech support told me it's because of pin connector on the board. Now i got new boards with soldered wires, and one of them just failed again.
This time, wire burned right at the point where it goes in the heating cylinder.
With my older printer, i had the problem with braking wire of heating element just one time, and actual heating "cylinder" was like new. With new design, they eliminated problems with bracking wire, but now it's just keeps burning.
do you have any tips how to prolong the life of this element, maybe heat resistant silicone will help?...
Also, is ti possible to purchase actual heating element somewhere, and replace it using the same board? it would save me a lot of time, waiting for warranty replacement takes a time, and i don't' really want to have my printers just sit when i can just repair it with new heating cylinder. If any one know the part number and where to source them, please share this info.
I would really appreciate any input and help.
Cheers,
Vadym

Might be able to find something here. The original cartridge from the UP! Plus / Afinia printer is 80 watts 24 volts about 30 mm in length and just under 6mm in diameter.

Vad,
You might alternatively try the cold acrylic plate solution.
Search this forum for perspex
cheers

The latest version that are soldiered onto the PCB don't fail any where near the older versions. I would get another one from your supplier.

That is what he has already. If you look at the picture he posted it is failing at the wiring near the heating cartridge element.

Re: Build platform heating element keeps burning
Thank you guys for suggestions.
I tried acrylic plate, adhesion was really strong...actually i can't remove the raft. However, it's doesn't help much with warping, model just separating from the raft...
Thankfully, i got replacements from afinia in two days after i contacted them, so at list this problem is solved for now.
And today, i got my heater cable failure on my older printer, and it looks like it's out of stock everywhere
.
If anyone, here in US, have spare part and willing to sell it, please let me know, i would really appreciate it!
Thanks!!!!

If you are wanting another version3 platform heater you can purchase directly from this website. It only takes about 3 or 4 days for delivery to the US and total cost is around $60 shipped.vad_ns wrote: And today, i got my heater cable failure on my older printer, and it looks like it's out of stock everywhere.

Thank you for clarifying. But it does appear his failed but just in a different spot.
Re: Build platform heating element keeps burning
Vad,
If using acrylic you need a greater clearance from the nozzle so as to avoid he ABS "sealing" itself to the acrylic, try 4 sheets of paper, or more, thickness as a gap measuring thickness rather than the usual two.

Re: Build platform heating element keeps burning
I've had mine for less than a week and i'm having the same issue, v3 heater board and one of the wires to the heater cartridge has burnt out.
does anyone know if there's a resistor or something inside the plastic sleeve? can the wire just be shorted?
