Print quality of the new colored ABS?
Has anyone tried the (for me) new color ABS from PP3DP? It's probably as good as the white but has anyone had chance to try it yet?
Cheers!
Cheers!

Yes - see here:

Each coloured spool has extra images of prints - just remember the actual colour may differ due to lighting conditions when photographed.
For me the Black is the most impressive

Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
I bought a spool of black, and it's really, really good. Light years beyond any other black I've tried.

Yep, Black seems the best so far but Blue isn't bad either...

Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
Man, that black does look good!
I'm so pissed about this, I bought 2 spools of natural ABS and then the colored spools debuted like a week or two later! I've been wanting to print in black for so long...
Does the black hide imperfections as well as the natural, though? Does it have that "softening" effect on the ridges to make it look better at a glance? It's hard to tell from pictures as things always look more ribbed in photos.

Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
I generally find the darker the filament the more it shows the layers. Regardless of the brand. The whites and creams look best in this regard. Black the worst.

Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
I'd normally agree with this but the official black has a matt surface to it which seems to reduce the visibility of the layers when compared to other colors.I generally find the darker the filament the more it shows the layers. I'll have to post some more photos when I get a minute...
Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
That's right.. the matt surface looks more nice than glosy surface.
I like OEM filament's matt feeling of the surface.
I think the worst looking filament is the plaster like grey filament.
It shows true layers, so not good looking.
But lots of modelers like that filament because it can make the exact post work on surface.
Following photo as for example.
The grey model partly sanded. it looks nice.
She looks 20 years older than others because of my bad post work skill.

Interesting. I have a mat black filament, but I haven't tried printing with it yet. Perhaps it will be better than the normal glossy black.eyUP wrote:I'd normally agree with this but the official black has a matt surface to it which seems to reduce the visibility of the layers when compared to other colors.I generally find the darker the filament the more it shows the layers. Incidentally I have a Stratasys Mojo sample in ivory and their filament is SUPER glossy. Not sure if that is an effect from the bath or how it comes out normally.
Great comparison shots jspark! I need a macro lens!jspark wrote:That's right.. the matt surface looks more nice than glosy surface.

Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
Thanks!
It looks like it behaves pretty well
Do you clean out the extruders before changing color or does the previous color disappear pretty quick after changing?

One or two extrudes is enough to see a consistent new color...I've never had to clean a nozzleIt looks like it behaves pretty well Do you clean out the extruders before changing color or does the previous color disappear pretty quick after changing?
Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
Does anyone know where to buy this in the UK?
The only place I'm aware of is iSupply3D, but they only sell twin packs and that makes it very expensive to buy one of each colour.

Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
Could be from a finishing bath, but the Mojo uses SABIC MG94 resin (what they call 'ABSplus'), while the Standard Stratasys P400 ABS is a very low-gloss material (and it's quite possible that Beijing Tiertime is using the exact same resin - likely Dow Magnum AG700).wilsonj wrote:Interesting. I'm only just getting started with my Up (which I won on Instructables) but I may be interested in going halves with you on a twin pack.

Hi Fred,
Cool components will soon be stocking the oem colours.
Hopefully they will sell single rolls as they do with the white.

Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
I just asked Cool Components and they're expecting to have the coloured ABS in about a week. I didn't ask whether they'd sell as single reels, but no reason to think they wouldn't as that's now they current sell the white.
Re: Print quality of the new colored ABS?
Umm.... how do you print at .15? My settings only go down to .2? Does the printer support higher resolutions?eyUP wrote:Here is another item using the official black ABS. Also printed at 0.15
