Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
I've heard rumors that Delta would be selling colored filament at a discount that the local VAR's would not be able to compete with and this has them worried and scrambling to locate second sources.
It seemed counter productive and I was shocked but it seemed like the VAR's were taking it seriously so it will be interesting to see what happens.
My machine has no problem with any supplier of plastic, I currently have 39 spools from 8 suppliers plus Delta OEM plastic and can start up a print and go to bed without fear of miss feeds or warping so however this all shakes out I know I can buy any ABS or PLA from anyone and be successful.

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
Placed an order the other day and got a call from Octave today, seems like they won't actually have things in until the end of the month
.
Julia, were you able to get any of the "official" up! plastic? Just curious to see if there was a noticeable difference between it and their other offering. It will be nice to not be stuck with printing 0.2mm layers only

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
No, I haven't gotten any official Up ABS yet apart from the white that came with the printer. Actually I've been happy with the Octave filament except maybe the black. What do you mean about not being stuck with printing 0.2mm layers? Is there a way to print finer than that with the Up?!?ata0921 wrote:Placed an order the other day and got a call from Octave today, seems like they won't actually have things in until the end of the month.

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
What I meant was that with the non-UP! plastic so far, you kind of have to print at 0.2mm to get it to work. Any other settings and things don't really look right, at least for me. Sometimes I just need a part fast and not so fine of settings, been waiting for official colored plastic for some time.

Here´s picture (pic1) where part printed with not OEM (grey) and with OEM (white) filaments.
Quite big difference in surface quality.
In pic2 you see how non OEM filament extruded out.
Only mod I have done to my UP! is the new wind barrier v7.

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
I just tried out the Blue Octave abs, and straight out of the sealed bag with desicant the plastic bubbles a lot when being extruded, which usually means the plastic has moisture in it, or your temp is too high for the plastic (which we cant change) It also left a lot of strings. this was at the 0.25mm setting and speed set to normal

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
That means the octave abs has an extrusion temp that's too low. The UP requires 260c and most ABS filament is 220. Caution: extruding a filament that not at the rated extrusion temperature will release poisonous toxins!

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
Well, I'm happy to report that the Octave Natural ABS seems to behave pretty closely to the original PP3DP ABS
No popping, and seems to play nicely with the 0.25 mm setting. I'm In the middle of printing the gramophone at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:17822 at the 0.4 mm setting and will have pics soon. In the meantime here's a replacement airconditioning knob I made for a friend. If I remember right I printed it at 0.25

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
Hrmm, well watching the grammophone print, I dont think this plastic is friendly with the 0.4 mm setting. Watching the support print out the "cross strings" (I dont know what they would be called, but the strings that it bridges the gaps with) are saggy, and not pulled tightly across. (which I would guess means the filament is ever so slightly thicker than the original pp3dp plastic. ) I love the Up! and its interface but the one thing I miss from skeinforge was being able to tweak the extrusion speed when i got a new reel of plastic that wasnt quite the same as my previous reel.

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
So heres the grammophone printed at 0.2mm and 0.4mm both at normal speed. (I have not printed this before, but knew it would be a challenging print.) The 0.2mm actually looks like it will look good after being cleaned up. The 0.4mm just looks like crap. Long story short, the Octave Natural ABS seems like a good buy to me, as long as you arent trying to speed print anything at the 0.4mm setting. As for my previous mention of the Blue abs, I put it in a bad with a lot of dessicant packs after I posted about it, and will try again this weekend, and hope that it was just moisture in the plastic.

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
And is this the UP! Octave flavor of plastic or the normal Octave stuff? So the $41.50 or the $31.00?
- Andy
Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
It's not $41.50 vs $31.00 - it's $41.50 for 700g vs $31.00 for 1,000g! So the Up stuff is actually almost double the cost of the Octave filament.ata0921 wrote:And is this the UP! Octave flavor of plastic or the normal Octave stuff? So the $41.50 or the $31.00?

I bought these:ata0921 wrote:And is this the UP! Octave flavor of plastic or the normal Octave stuff? So the $41.50 or the $31.00?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007X0 ... 00_s00_i00
and

They said in the description they are for the Up! But after seeing your post I kept looking and found the Up! Specific plastic. That price is a little ridiculous to be honest though. Its cheaper to buy the plastic from pp3dp.com directly than through Octave.
pp3dp = $70 plus $12 shipping for 2 spools of 700g = $82 for 1.4kg or $41 per spool
octave = $41.50 plus $9.50 for 1 spool of 700g = $51 for 700g/1spool (Note, the shipping costs are actually more expensive through Octaves site, this was the price I got through amazon)
(I live in the US)
To answer your question though, I did not buy the up! specific plastic, I thought what I was buying was, but apparently not.

Feel sorry for those living in Australia

Re: Octave Now Selling Official Up! Filament
Looks like Octave has the official Delta Micro filament for the UP! and they are also listing a new OSI ABS filament formulated for the UP! with a 260 melting point. Has anyone tried this OSI filament yet? http://www.octave.com/ABS-Filament-Up!- ... index.html
