Detection of Filament Feed

Post by markbougourd » Thu May 18, 2017 6:58 am

Does anyone know if there is an add-on to detect if filament stops feeding.
I had a 25hour print started and somewhere between hour 5 and 17 the filament stopped feeding and the printer just carried on through its print.

Good question.

We waited year and TT added....

...a microswitch to the BOX. As such it can't tell if the filament is moving, just whether it's there or not.

Very disappointing when for a couple of $ more it could have been a rotary encoder. In contrast Makerbot released a significant, automatically applied firmware update, to our 5th gen that not only detects filament jams but also moves the head away, clears the jam and resumes the print.
