Hi there,
I want to share my Hardware Mod for my UP! Mini I´ve realized so far. My intention was to be able to print PLA with the UP! Mini.
To be able to print PLA I had to reduce the temperature on the stepper, caused by the extruder nozzle. I reversed the original Fan to suck air from the Heat sink. Further I designed and printed a kind of ramp the remove the heat from the stepper.
I used a 40mm Fan with 12V and grabbed the 12V directly from the board on the print head.
The ramp can be “clicked” on the extruder head. The ramp leads the heat from the stepper out of the cabin. I also added some aluminums heat sinks on the stepper. I release the upper cabin door when printing PLA. When printing ABS I just unplug the additional fan.
Best greetings
Andreas

Re: Extruder Stepper MOD
Hi,
totally with you on reversing the air flow from the original fan
I did something similar, but different. Printed a clip that fits the extruder head and has mounts for 2 fans : http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:492030
This also enabled PLA printing
(ok the stock PP3DP PLA just works but... 3 colors??? really???)
