Why not try Skanect software and PrimeSense Carmin 1.09?
Cubify use Carmin 1.09 technology.

I almost ordered one, then read the specs.

I definitely wont be cancelling my Matterform scanner which I expect to be far superior (albeit for a limited size object).

With Skanect I like the opportunity to scan larger parts, and the software is really easy to use.

Here`s few more cheap scanners, not sure are there big difference (in accurasy) between Matteform and these two

The Sense looks just like a Carmine from prime sense in a flashy box. I can't see any improvement on quality when compared to it.

I'm not familiar with any of these other scanners based on the same platform, but some pretty impressive scans are starting to pop up on Thingiverse, like this one:

The author makes the point that the software for this device is better integrated than some other PrimeSense scanners.

I'm not canceling my Matterform, but might have to get one of these for big stuff.

The real benefit for the Sense is their software. Yes, the scanner is a Carmine 1.09, I have a Sense and when you install the driver that's what it is identified as.

The Sense software is a watered down version of Geomagic (another 3DSystems acquisition) and its really makes a difference.

If you think about it, Carmine 1.09 sensor is $200 and a license of the pro versions of Skanect/Reconstruct me is $135/$250 respectively, puts you at about the same range...but the Sense is all integrated, you don't have to leave the environment and the software repairs really intelligently.

I'm hoping to do a comparison between the three sometime soon, I'll post if that happens.

Thanks, Andy! Are you finding the scan quality/resolution to be useful/usable? I wouldn't be looking for perfection, but I don't want to end up with blobs, either.

I'm still putting it through its paces, but yeah it's def usable stuff so far. I don't want to pass final judgement until I try and scan more complex things than whats around my house to make it fair.

Can't emphasize enough that the software is what makes the real difference, the raw scan data itself is def comparable to Carmine 1.09 on its own with Skanect.

I couldn't agree more, you usually wouldn't here me singing praises on most 3D Systems products, but this one seems to be a winner.

I saw some photogrammatry based software at a website cirri.co . Looks like a decent scan based on photos, but the software is on your computer and you dont have to send it to a cloud or similar.
The student offer seems ok as long as it makes decent models, that you could hopefully use in sketchup or some simple 3d software.
opinions?

Yes, Cirri looks fantastic. But it's almost a year from being available.
