up mini 2 cannot print the ABS it came with

Post by Bogu7 » Sun Apr 21, 2019 7:12 pm

Got my printer 4 days ago, prints PLA great.

It simply cannot print ABS, which is the only reason I got it. I am extremely disappointed and nearly ready to box it up and send it back.

When the ABS hits the bed it bends back onto the nozzle, none of it ever sticks, and the nozzle somehow gets so clogged it cannot even extrude. I have tried this like 20 times and get the same result every time.

I imagine that the bed is too cold. But even set to preheat, the print starts when the bed is at 50%. What gives? Also how does the nozzle get so clogged?

This is absurd.

Dear Customer,

I have a trial like you said use ABS filament print on UP mini 2. And it's working fine.
Please switch off preheat.
And please close air flow adjustment knob.
Please send Email to us if you can't print ABS filament successfully.
support@tiertime.com or ocean.sun@tiertime.net
Thanks.

Print bed is not designed to get past 60 (or maybe 70 Celcius at higher ambient temperature). Tiertime does not acknowledge the problem, I would recommend returning the printner to your vendor if that is an option if you need the higher temperatures.

That said, I used to be able to print smaller ABS prints with this limitation, but large surfaces will warp.

It was closed the whole time - all the way closed.

I think I need a replacement printer.

Just curious, why would one "turn off pre-heat" for ABS printing?
Cheers, Owen S.

I rarely had it on to be honest.

Why? It never reaches target temperature anyway, so it will wait each and every time, regardless of just having printed. And as it will never reach the target temperature it starts printing prematurely if not heated up before. At least thats how it is on the Up Mini 2.

So first thing I did when I opened Up Studio was to turn on the hot bed. Then 30-60 minutes later depending on weather, phase of the moon and New York stock exchange index I would start the print without preheating enabled in the print settings. First thing after a print would be to turn the bed back on as I most likely needed to change the design a little and print a new version.
