Upgrading Box to print Carbon Fiber?

Post by ajohnsonlaird » Sat Mar 24, 2018 7:48 pm

Anyone know whether the upgrade kit (https://store.tiertime.com/products/big ... y-tiertime) allows an Up Box (original not the Plus) to then print the new filament that the Box+ can (e.g. carbon fiber, etc.).

Thanks in advance

I'm not even sure you'd need the CPU upgrade. Does the latest Upstudio allow your model to change nozzle and bed temps from the UPfila standards? It prints around 230-250 which is well within the ranges of the heater block, as it prints ABS at 270 on mine by default.

If so, all you'd really need is a hardened nozzle, which are annoyingly going to need to be in the female variety. You can try the Micro-Swiss Plated Nozzles https://store.micro-swiss.com/products/ ... for-up-box, though being coated and not actually a hardened steel nozzle your mileage may vary.

Which would also depend on which heater block you have, they only fit the 8mm variety (After 2015)

I wish tiertime would change to the Olsson styles. I'd buy a new heater block just for that fact. Much more compatibility across the board, and would really open this printer up a bit in regards to printing materials etc.

Thanks for the reply, brunningm....I'll check out the version of UpStudio I have -- and thanks also for the hardened nozzle link.

Cheers
