UP BOX just arrived
Man it's quiet here. Where are the reviews, are there any users out there that have this machine? Is it any good or are there some bugs?
And I saw a new nozzle on the 3D Printing Systems website, where's info about that? Is it SS? Why has the design changed, is it better?
Anyway, I'm still excited for this machine but can't find much info. I hope it is here this or next week to find out for myself. I will post back my findings for other people.

Re: UP BOX just arrived
I think most of us are just fed up with PP3DP's artificial restrictions on their hardware, and are looking beyond them for their next printer.

''And I saw a new nozzle on the 3D Printing Systems website''
So here: http://store.3dprintingsystems.com/Nozzle
And it fits on the new extruder (V3): http://store.3dprintingsystems.com/Part ... er%20Block
Probaly all stainless steel, are there people here with experience on that? Is this an improvement? It does look sleek and maybe makes warming up the nozzle faster.

Re: UP BOX just arrived
The eBay store of TierTime also sells them. I don't get why there isn't more info about these things here.
http://www.ebay.nl/sch/tiertime-usa/m.h ... pg=&_from=
The shop on this website still has the pictures of the first nozzle from like 3 years ago..
So the hotend now is smaller in volume, SS and the nozzle is 8 mm wide.

Re: UP BOX just arrived
I am also waiting for people sharing their review about up box, but can not find any...
Tiertime should concentrate a little more on marketing......
Is it Bowden extruder or straight?

Thanks, didn`t earlier find the site where new nozzle was mentioned.pp3dp.nl wrote:''And I saw a new nozzle on the 3D Printing Systems website''

I could be wrong, but new nozzle looks like injection molded part?

How about the much-vaunted speed increase?

Re: UP BOX just arrived
No, not really - no way to judge the speed from that video. It'd be nice to hear from some experienced Uppers with comments like "Seems about 50% faster than the Plus" or "Doesn't seem any faster than the Plus" or "This part took 4 hours on the Plus but the Box did it with the same quality in 3 hours", or "It can go really fast but the quality suffers noticeably" etc.
There are now a number of good printers available in this size , price, and feature range, so if the Box has a genuine speed advantage that'd be a big marketing plus.

Re: UP BOX just arrived
Yes, sorry but couldn`t find better video, wondering where the all reviews are.

Re: UP BOX just arrived
Hello everybody! Hi Julia!
Im a designer and a 3d printing beginner, but i will share with you my first impressions about Up Box.
Comparing to Up Plus 2, few days ago i did a test.
I printed same small model (same settings - both fast mode) on Up Plus 2 and Up Box.
Box was about 5% faster, similar quality.
But in new software they added Turbo mode - which is even faster, so "30% faster than UP Plus 2" is possible, comparing Up plus 2 fast and Up Box Turbo mode. Print quality on turbo mode is little bit worse but still good.
Regards,
Jacob

Re: UP BOX just arrived
Wow, 30% faster than the Plus definitely piques my interest, assuming we're talking 30% faster than the Plus's "Fast" mode speed.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: UP BOX just arrived
I was lucky to have both printers only for short period of time ( nów I only have Box) to do enough tests, so it is hard to say if it is 30 or probably little bit less about 20-25% comparing Up plus 2 "Fast" mode and Up Box "Turbo" mode. But still it is nice to see how it moves

Re: UP BOX just arrived
That is great news! Thanks for posting some info.
Did you do bigger prints? I wonder what temperature the build chamber will get to. If it reaches about 50 degrees that would help a lot to stop warping.

Re: UP BOX just arrived
I didn't measure temperature inside, but I heard from my local Up distributor that it reaches around 50-55 Celsius degrees.
After few small test prints ofcourse I tried printing bigger parts, around 20x20cm (which is why I've actually bought the Up Box- possibility i to print architectural models, at least parts of them).
Unfortunately it didn't go properly in my case, the raft started to detach from the perfboard. Probably i will have to set the nozzle height and level platform manually (i did only autolevel and height detect before).
Offcourse I did preheat my platform (80 Celsius degrees after 15 min preheat). According to the software 2.15 my platform preheats up to maximum 89 Celsius degrees.
I will inform you as soon as I will correct my settings and do another tests.
Cheers

Re: UP BOX just arrived
WOW those look great!
Re: UP BOX just arrived
Not one user review posted yet. I would have expected at least a few reviews by now.
Re: UP BOX just arrived
I was one of the few lucky ones that was able to buy one. Finally! I have it in my possession since last Tuesday and printed a few parts but didn't have a lot of time.
I went to pick up the box at my reseller myself and as expected, IT IS HUGE! It almost didn't fit in my car.
This is really a nice looking machine, we had it on display at an unveiling of an artpiece with a 3D printed part and people were drawn to the Up Box with it's sleek design and lighting.
I have to do some more tests but the first things I noticed are:
- Use at least software version 2.15 - other versions have the raft worked out different and it will fuse to the part. With the latest version support removal was easy.
- Automatic calibration went wrong somehow but I have only clicked that once. I had weird problems with the raft and thought I had a faulty machine or software problems. Untill I thought the platform calibration might be wrong, I have reset all values in the Up software and calibrated the table manually with the knobs under it - fixed! So I'll have to look at the automatic later, maybe there were manual values added in the factory that interfered.
- HEPA filter is really a nice feature, you don't smell the melting ABS as much. But my fan resonates terribly, it's the first sound I noticed and after some searching found it was only happening when the cover was screwed on. Maybe tightening the screws or some tape will fix it, no big problem. And allthough it is a fairly big fan the Up Box is still pretty silent.
- I tried a few parts printing TURBO speed
Quality is still pretty good! Last night I printed a pretty big bust, 0.25 mm layers in Shell mode and Turbo speed and it was done in about 4 hours. And the quality (first impression) is great - walls are nice and there was a slittle seam visible. But I would think that is a perfect ''draft mode'' for quick prototyping.
I will go on testing and report back here, so far I really like it!
