printing without raft or support

Post by mr6k » Tue Feb 14, 2012 11:59 am

Hi, I am new here so this question may have been answered before.

I already print (ABS) onto Kaptop without a raft, however I want to print some models with NO support material, even though there is a internal void.

Example, I want to print a keyfob. 3D model has a void where the key will fit. The idea is to print half the model, so the void is an open trench area , pause, place the key into the void, then resume such that the printer then prints over the key "handle". However at present even setting support to minimums the trench area adds support as the printer expects to have to support the upper full area and knows nothing about a key filling the void.

Any ideas. (! am using Sketchup to generate the 3D file)

regards

Print it in two half's and glue, or increase the curve great than 10 degrees and use 10 degree support
