Hello from Melbourne, just put my order in for an UP! PLUS. It'll be my first 3D printer.
I've been teaching myself Solidworks, and will be using the printer to be making custom eCigarette mods and accessories. On the side I'll be using it to make things for my 6 month old daughter, such as home safety items (eg. door latches, corner protectors), and of course other random trinkets.
Look forward to sharing my experience as a new user.

Moderator! please remove and cancel the account of the above poster 'weikbywprs'
This is undeniably SPAM!
It is also nonsensical drivel. It makes no sense at all and is utterly off any topic on this forum.
Can we check first time posters please!

Re: Looks like we are up and running
hey guys,
another 'upper' in Newcastle NSW...I like to make bike lights and bike things...I like to make 'power' from recycled and 3d printed objects...
check me out on thingiverse, once its back on line....I make things under the handle of 'ktronik'
once I get my printer back on line, I hope to print some cool stuff, working on small VAWTs at the moment...as well as things for kLite.com.au

ktronik! welcome.
Its good to see new [legit] people on the anzup group. some pics of your prints would be awesome. Still saving/justifying cost of a printer but there are things you can only make with a 3d printer. it is only a matter of time...mmm a blue one

Hey Mec949,
once I get my unit going again, I will be printing and posting, all my things...They are a lot simpler than I thought them to be, I all ready have my eye on my next printer....reckon I will go a rostock max kit, and build my self...should be fun, leave the UP for small fine printed things...all fun in the end!

Re: Looks like we are up and running
saw your websites. the bike lights look cool. are they printed on the up and painted or are the prototyped on the up and then manufactured in metal. the copper colour is way cool.

Re: Looks like we are up and running
dynamo driven lights are my thing, 850lm forever, if you can keep riding, usb charger, all CNC milled, the UP is so i can make nice electronic enclosures...I ride everyday and LOVE IT!!mec949 wrote:saw your websites. the bike lights look cool. are they printed on the up and painted or are the prototyped on the up and then manufactured in metal. the copper colour is way cool.

What about diving? It's the most releaxed sport I know and do.

Always breath out on the way UP
Re: Looks like we are up and running
G'day From Brisbane - recently got a UP! Plus and very happy except for one thing ..well two really.
I tried to start my first post with a question about how to print small nuts and bolts (i.e. M6 and M4) and a moderator jumped on my head and reckons my post contained links to pirated software and disallowed it. I haven't a clue what he/she is on about .
So, I'm sorry if this is a bit off -topic but I don't seem permitted to start my own thread, so how the hell do you print small nuts and bolts ?
I believe Lawrence has printed them down to M2.5 ..I wish!!

Re: Looks like we are up and running
Hi
I cannot honestly say that I have printed M2.5 nuts and bolts, but I do print M2.75 nuts and bolts. To test it, just download a nut and bolt from Thingiverse and try it. These ones: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8796 are M15, and print well. Load a nut and bolt from these, then down-size them in the Up! software.
1. Load the nut and bolt onto the platform with the bolt on its head.
2. Select Scale and set it to 0.2.
3. Select Scale again. The models will now be M3 nut and bolt.
Print with settings: Layers at 0.15 or 0.2, Maximum fill, 10 degrees of support, 4 layers, and Fine mode.
Note:I only use genuine Up! filament, and I use a Gekko sheet to ensure there is no lifting from the platform, but with only that small footprint lifting probably won't be a problem anyway.
Anyone wanting to try it with nylon should also get good results. I have not tried it on my Up! but have printed M4 nut and bolt in nylon on my Replicator clone using 0.15 mm layers.. If the clone can do it, I am very confident the Up! can do it.
Good luck with it.

Hey Ian,
With respect to the harsh moderation you received, it was someone probably just moderating in a rush and there are limited options for setting the reason why. Forums like this get swamped with spam (I moderate a similar one for a CNC product) and although a good a good post should never get deleted as spam sometimes it does happen when people have a lot of them to process and they get a little less diligent. I hope it's not happening too often and you were extremely unlucky.
Anyway, once you've posted good posts a few times you wont be moderated at all and everything you post, including new topics, will go straight through.
Finally, G'day also from Brissie!

Re: Looks like we are up and running
Thanks Lawrence and Roller,
I contacted Mark from the 3D Superstore, and he has put me right.
I naively thought that all STL files were equal. As I'm sure you know, that is not the case, and the one I was using was not up to par in terms of the thread quality.
I have almost zero CAD experience and expertise so I am "relying on the kindness of strangers" to quote Blanche, for the more exotic shapes.
The rendering looked OK as far as the UP software was concerned but apparently there were discontinuities in the thread.
Lawrence, I don't really need an M2.5 but it was just driving me nuts that my printer wasn't even getting close to that.
The openSCAD (also on the vertical slope of the learning curve for that as well
) script I was using was attractive because it seemed so configurable, but I after advice from Mark I tried a less friendly looking file, and that has worked a treat.
Roller, you're most likely right about the moderation. I know it's a thankless task.
Thanks again

Re: Looks like we are up and running
Wanted to say hi guys!
I got an Up Mini about a month ago and finally had the bright idea to check this forum. I'm in Sydney and my name is Lachlan!
I got the Mini to print parts for headphone modifications, but every day I keep thinking of fun things I'd like to do on the printer.
Started a little forum thread about 3D printing and audio gear in an forum I frequent too, if any of you are curious: http://www.head-fi.org/t/679185/the-3d-printer-thread-d
Look forward to seeing your awesome projects

Hi Lachlan,
Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your printer.
Nice little write up on Head-fi too. I've spent some time on that forum myself over the years. Currently using a pair of Westone 4s, which are total overkill, but my phone calls have never sounded so good!
Cheers
Jamie

This lay out was done before I got the Up printer.
