Any experience with PET, PETG, HIPS, etc.?

Post by pleppik » Mon Feb 15, 2016 10:27 pm

I'm seeing more and more different plastics being sold for 3D printing. It's not just ABS and PLA anymore.

Has anyone tried printing with HIPS, PET, or PETG on an Up? I have an Up Plus 2 with a temp mod, and may give it a try.

Hi,

I had some experience with PETG from Winbo (28€ kg). The result was quite similar to PLA.
The print was very shiny, and also glassy to transparent. The Layerbond wasn´t that good and support/raft was not easy to remove. Warping didn´t happened on parts up to 80mm printsize.

I used 230-240 °C HotEnd temp by Hardware Mod and the Bed was on 60°C. Some gloggings happened but nothing big.

For me it was no alternative to PLA.

Isn´t Hips not meant to be support material?

greetings Andreas

Tried ASA.
Has a nice feel to it, kinda more "brittle" than PLA, jams fast on the Mini.
Flexible filament failed for me.

Printed with polycarb, best results for me were temp at 299, and layer height of .15

Try Sainsmart flexible TPU filament, works great for me on PLA setting on Boroscilate glass. But you can't use rafts or support as it is very difficult or impossible to remove in most cases. But I think this is the case with any flexible filament...

No problem! As for settings, I just use the PLA setting and print on normal and .20 or .25 layers!

OK I just got the clear Sainsmart flexible TPU.
First print @ 220°C is doing just fine.
No oiling, no CLACK!, it just prints!

I had some filaflex before - which is way softer though - and did not succeed at all.

You have to lower the print-speed, then it prints like a charm!

Here are my setting.
Note the increased feed-scale and the slower speeds.
210 for all layers.
Prints seem better when the wind-hatch is closed, so the TPU stays juicy…
