Anyone gotten the UP! to work with 3rd party software?

Post by KCSteve » Tue Aug 26, 2014 3:38 pm

Just wondering if any of you folks with lots of printer experience have gotten the UP! (especially the Mini) to work with other than the UP! software.

For me all I need is for them to fix the separation issue (although turning on real temperature control would be nice too) but I figure someone has to have taken a look at controlling their printer with something else.
Enjoy!

You would need to write your own control software from scratch or replace the mainboard that controls the printer to be compatible with other (open source) software. Of course, in doing that you will also lose the removable support feature of the Up printer/software. The Mini has shortcomings but these are addressable with mods that would allow you to keep all the positives of have a commercial printer (simplicity and as I said removable support) while also costing a lot less than modding over to use other software.
