***WARNING*** - READ THIS IF YOU'RE THINKING OF GCODE ON MULTIPLE PRINTERS

Post by Owen Sparks aka Marksman » Thu Oct 05, 2017 9:58 am

Hi folks, main GCODE thread is here:- https://www.up3d.com/community/viewtopi ... 20&t=56013 but I wanted this to stand out.

Things are going pretty well printing with S3D on the UPBOX+ so I decided someone has to take the plunge and try it on an original UPBOX. Scary as this has bricked a CPU in the past and TT were not helpful.

So I had:-

(a) The BOX+ printing and my original UPBOX idle both connected to one PC running latest studio beta.
(b) Switched in studio from the + to the original.
(c) Added the GCODE file and hit send.

(d) The Plus (the machine I wasn't talking to) has stopped printing and has every other LED lit up blue

(e) The original UPBOX that I was talking to has done nothing.

This is not good.

I had a long chat at the TCT show with the folks from Denfort and TT Joseph and raised the issue that I'd had with studio getting confused between multiple machines. This confusion tried to smash the gantry on one printer as incorrect nozzle height parameters were used. I told them that it appeared that nobody at TT seemed to care as there was no comment from TT my thread.

https://www.up3d.com/community/viewtopi ... 20&t=55969

They told me it needed to be addressed, but so far nothing.

So please be warned folks, it looks like there may be issues.

Forgot to say,

(f) Studio can no longer see either printer.

Both printers have been re initialised via their side buttons.

Studio now sometimes displays this:-

And sometimes displays no printers at all.

If the UpboxPlus is shown it will let me connect to it, but not the machine showing in Chinese characters.

TT please let me know how to proceed.

OK a power cycle brought the old BOX back into studio so I tried again.

BOX+ Idle
BOX Idle
Selected BOX in studio
Sent GCODE to BOX

BOX+ (the wrong printer) sprang to life and smashed its build plate into the head.
BOX continued to sit idle
Studio fell over.

I've no idea if just having the BOX plugged in to the PC (with the BOX+ removed) would work but I don't intend trying it. I've spent the better part of 2 days working to get GCODE running well, and updating the thread so others can share, but I'm not happy doing much more if it's going to destroy my kit.

Sorry guys, didn't want to let you down. :(

Hi OwenSparks, thanks for all your comments about GCODE

one question:

have you tried GCODE with UPBOX (non UPBOX+)(idle, without upgrade kit) only connected by usb?

thanks for sharing

You're welcome, it's been an interesting time. We've been banging on for over a year that we want to use GCODE so was keen to get involved.

Not so far. I'm very interested to see if it works but have a lot to print at the moment. Couple that with my BOX being out of warranty (and the case of the bricked CPU that TT washed their hands of, and the replacement being £400) and you can see it's not at the top of list of priorities.

Once I'm caught up I might if I'm feeling brave / my manager looks like he'll sign off on a new machine if it goes fizzle / bang / crash.

Cheers,

Owen S.
