Following a discussion with a colleague we'd like to suggest a "Neil's No Fly Zone" for the extruder head.
This would be a 3d area defined via an stl file that the head is prohibited to pass through.
Its purpose would be to allow such things as:-
(a) Dual colour printing without the split constraining everything on that layer being the same colour.
(b) Telling the print to pause for the insertion of parts such as an electric motor that may have a shaft poking out the end. Tell the printer where the shaft will be, and not to hit it after the print continues.
Now obviously the head takes up some volume so it would need a gap to fit into, so some design sympathy would be required, as would some indication from the SW that "I can't print that, please try again."
