PP3DP have released the very exciting update that dramatically increases the layer resolution (0.15mm for UP Plus and 0.2mm for UP Mini) plus some other bug fixes.
Sorry MAC users no update yet, but you "should be able to upgrade your ROM" using the windows software.
The download page also tells you what ROM to use (included in this download)
Download now at http://www.3DPrintingSystems.com/support

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
Hi, how can I update the ROM file?
I have an old version previous than 3.0 so the V6.041is the one to be used.
I have never update any ROM.
Thanks for your help.

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
Very excited it's here. I've updated my Up! Plus at home but couldn't use 6.07 so tried 6.041 and that worked.
I happened to have blue PLA on the machine so as a test printed the same model (0.2 mm layers) as yesterday but now with 0.15 mm. The machine definitely runs hotter with PLA, it's now like I don't use the wind barrier v7 and an external fan blowing on the model... It's ''smudgy'' (don't know the word for it) and the support can't be removed. Hope there is a workaround for this although I don't print PLA very often (the model is small but yesterday it printed fine).
But I can see the layers are thinner, nice to have the 0.15 option - thanks PP3DP!

Jena67, just follow the instructions on screen. After installing 1.17 software you'll find Update ROM under Tools. The ROM file is on your computer in program files in UP/System.
I'm printing multiple models in blue PLA now but because of the higher temperature (I guess) I have the stringing problem. When moving from model to model a thin wire is between. But maybe it's the software 1.17 because before I used 1.15 (with 1.16 I couldn't print with PLA because of stringing/leaking). I think the retracting of PLA when moving from model to model in 1.16 was different, maybe 1.17 has the same motor settings.

Thanks a lot pp3dp.nl!
Have a nice weekend.

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
I have just tested printing PLA in version 1.17 versus 1.15. In 1.15 there is no stringing, so no ugly pieces and stuff on your prints. I don't know if this is the same for ABS.
Can anyone confirm? I don't know how many people previously used PLA and software version 1.16 and if they had problems with printing, I've never read it here on the forum.
Now I'm switching to ABS for testing, eager to see those 0.15 mm layers!
And have a nice weekend everybody.

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
Other than the improved Z resolution, does anyone have a summary of changes in 1.17 and the new ROM?
Being a Mac person, I need to decide if it's worth it to switch to the Windows version under Parallels.

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
Well the ROM is copied to the hard drive when you install 1.17, you could get the ROM from somebody else without installing the Windows version.
The download info states:
- Auto place option under File menu, models will be automatically placed when loaded.
- Modify the No raft mode, remove the first base layer (don't know what this means yet)
- New ROMs
And I noticed when you go to Maintenance and press extrude or withdraw you hear a very short beep, I can't disable the beep which was mentioned as one of the new features.

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
First change I notice: changed long beeps by short beeps, so less noise.
I have to say that it's more difficult to put off the support from printed part.
I used "official" white ABS filament.
My first print wasn't the best to check new 0.15 layer so I'm doing another one.

Printing at 0.15mm you need the official v10 wind barrier with the door open, download from our support page www.3DPrintingSystems.com/support

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
I did so except for raft, thank you very much.wackojacko wrote:Printing at 0.15mm you need the official v10 wind barrier with the door open, download from our support page http://www.3DPrintingSystems.com/support
Edit: In my second print, again the same, support is harder it self, so It's harder to put off it. I think when I use this fine layers, I should try to change support configuration to get less support walls. (I wish I explained what I wanted to say)
But for me this isn't a problem, just wanted to tell any changes I found.
And If you use fill, you almost get a solid part , great!!

keep testing.

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
Hi!
Just installed 1.17 and new ROM on my 1st generation UP! Plus with old motherboard. So far so good...it's still working!
I do not have a wind barrier yet...it seems with the 0.15 resolution this is recommended. Should I use the V10 or the V11 which comes in the parts folder of the 1.17 update?
The V11 looks quite different compared to the V10 (no square openings)... now I wonder which one is better. Any experiences?
And one more question. Do I also have to use the fancy extruder cover if I add the wind barrier? Or can I just add the barrier and keep my 1st gen small cable box (...actually I like the look without a cover...)
Thanks!
Andre

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
I've never used 1.15. WIth 1.16, I've had lots of stringing with PLA on some prints and very little with others; it really depends on the tool path and also the layer thickness setting - I tend to use less Z resolution for PLA. Not hearing a whole lot of love for 1.17 so far so I'm staying with 1.16 for the moment. Is it downgradeable - can you go back if you don't like 1.17?pp3dp.nl wrote:I have just tested printing PLA in version 1.17 versus 1.15. Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
Well I found out about the difference between 1.15 and 1.16 because on my own laptop I had 1.15 and at the time I printed some models with blue PLA. A few days a week I work with students where an Up! is available for their projects and 1.16 came out so that was on the computer. They were interested in the PLA models and I printed some, but they looked different and the support was hard to remove. Then I realised the difference in software (at least for PLA) so I installed 1.15 and the models looked better. I don't know if this is a coincidence or a real difference in how the filament is extruded..JuliaDee wrote:I've never used 1.15. I went back to 1.15 for the moment so yes, you can downgrade, the ROM is firmware so the Up! remembers it.
Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
By the way I have printed some models with ABS at 0.15 mm layers, AWESOME quality. The support came off nice, too. I still use the wind barrier v7, just printed the v10 and what an amazing design. Just a little support under the damper and easy to remove.
I'll test some ABS models with v10, just read that under Spares in the Up 1.17 install folder there is v11 so gonna check that too.

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
Just worth noting that v3.00 firmware needs to use the v6.041 rom, not 6.07 as stated on the 3Dprintingsystems newsletter.
Had me puzzled why it wouldn't update until I found on the PP3D download page:

There are 3 ROM files in the system folder of UP sofrware. V6.041 is used by older UP! Printer which firmware is 3.00 or lower. V6.07 is for new UP printer.
Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
I have a small part (a snap-on cap for a miniature pushbutton) that couldn't be printed at 0.2mm - the snap-on details were non-existent on the printed part. At 0.15mm the features not only print, but the part is functional!

Re: UP! Software and ROM v1.17 Final
I have a V1 firmware.
I cannot update the ROM, I get the reply that is not
Compatible.
.
Does anybody know how to solve it?
Thanks
