My UP printer has its own mind now

Post by XRay » Sat Jul 07, 2012 4:46 pm

A couple of weeks ago when I was printing the abs filament stopped coming out of nozzle halfway during printing so I had to re-initialize it and reprint. Then it worked fine on one small print, failed again on next one and I notice the X axis (front & back) has some noise while moving. I checked nozzle, it's okay, no clogging, extruding fine. Today when I'm printing a statue, halfway it started to print only in X axis, back and forth, so I had to stop it. Please have a look at my attached pictures, no way it should do this. Please enlighten me what to check to fix my problem, many thanks.

Looks like Y axis stepper controller or cable is faulty

The stepper driver maybe auto protected. Replacing the mainboard or updating the CPU board can solve it.

Thanks for all of your responses, really appreciate it and I want to give you some feedbacks. Since it doesn't fail all the time so I hoped its not the stepper motor problem. I searched forum and noticed that some posts talking about unplugging USB cable while printing, so I tried and it's been working as normal now.

But I still like to be enlightened what's the real difference between printing with and w/o USB connection? How that can affect your printing process? I really want my printer working normally with USB plugged because that way I can monitor it from my iPad through logmein and if anything wrong I can stop it right away.

Does anyone moderate this forum?

Seems lately a lot of this junk is getting into the system.

cheers

Yep a few days ago my printer went nuts, right near the end of a print luckily so the part was still useable.

It just started going all over the place, started ramming the nozzle into the board as it was try to move upward.

It then knocked my model over as it strafed across, burnt a line through it with the nozzle

It then proceeded to draw random things in mid air lol...

Anyways i think i need to look at the gears as the belt was slipping when it was ramming into itself...

From now on i will unplug USB just to be sure...

Mine has gone crazy many times now...

Even with the USB unplugged...

I have it on video too, at the end of my print it just started going randomly all over the shop, knocked my model over...drove the board up into the nozzel etc.

Again tonight, it finished printing my thing no worries, i came home and then i saw that it was a long long way above where it finished still printing. There was a spiders nest of extruded wire below it and also the model i printed it was printing it again because i saw features of it print properly...

So its printing multiple above it...

Again, printed something that many people have printed so it wasnt my own model

Got home, model had finished, however there was a birds nest of plastic.

Too make it worse the extruder is bent out of place, so it was driving itself into one of the walls or something in order to move it. The windbarrier is broken off...

And im sure to top it off my drive belts are getting ruined when its obviously slipping.

Time to call them up
