1kg spool holder

Post by woofy » Tue Apr 03, 2012 10:43 pm

I've just purchased some coloured abs on 1kg spools from cool components. These spools do not fit on the UP as the larger spool hits the filament feeder. The spool holder really needs to be about an inch longer. I've seen the 1kg holder on thingiverse but is just stronger not longer. I've also seen the stand alone holder but would prefer a self contained holder on the UP.
Has anyone done this? If not i will do my own.

I've designed and printed one, and it works fairly well - I will need to tweak it to work a little better.

I'll modify and upload tonight mate.

Let me know if you think it will help.

Almost.
The raft and supports stick to the model more and are a little harder to cut away. Also I tend to get a little peaking on edges which the nozzle hits on the next pass. It would be good to be able to control the temperature.
It's not too bad though.

I was about to buy some, but on an order over £150, the shipping is another £30+!

I can get it posted cheaper from China!

Yeah, probably true.
But I bought my printer from them and they don't supply the official abs. They do say they have tested it with the UP though, so if the prints go bad, the balls in their court.
And with the wasted money scare stories around of non delivery or greasy or thick or thin or melt temp or.. .. . .
Well you get the idea.

Hi Soapy,

Yes this is expensive! This price is automatically generated from Royal Mail. We're looking at alternatives right now and looks like we can get this down to £10 for an order of this size! As soon as we get the new courier set up in the system we'll let you know.

His cool components, just bought the Up! Plus printer from you along with some white and purple ABS spools. Are you guys going to stock Clear PLA spools soon? It's handy for printing parts that can be LED iluminated (from what I've seen on thingverse) as it carrys and disperses light well.

Cheers guys

There is also this one, which works fine on the skinnier 1kg spools as well as the wide Octave ones:
