Making a living

Post by JuliaDee » Fri May 10, 2013 9:46 am

One of four production line test fixtures designed by yours truly and now in use in China. The black ring, printed with OEM filament, houses phototransistors for testing a product containing LEDs. The drop-in two-part fixture, in black OEM and Octave yellow & red, configures the fixture for testing assembled PC boards before they go into the final housing. Also the cable clamps, board feet, etc. were (obviously!) printed. All parts designed in Tinkercad.

The factory people were amazed that I printed the parts myself on a $1,500 machine, and of course proud to hear that it was designed and produced in their own country :)

Awesome! Congrats on your sales.

question:

Are you actually making a living solely with doing 3D printing? If so, how many 3D printers are you using?

Not really - I make my living doing product development, project management, and electronics design. 3D printing is just another tool that expands my capabilities and improves productivity. I've had just the one Up for the past year, but recently bought an Afinia as a backup, and I also have a Qu-BD Revolution XL on order for bigger builds.

Hi Julia.
Your projects look fantastic. I think I want to marry you.
Hang on, I forgot that I am already married, and also quite old, so maybe best if I could adopt you.
Regards.
