Combination Lock

Post by cyberbadger » Fri Jan 07, 2011 4:25 am

Great Print from thingverse!

I had to scale the STLs in the UP software by a factor of 30. - ended up being exactly or almost exactly the size that the designer printed on a Stratasys - about 4" or so in the longest dimension. See the US quarters in the pictures for size reference. Quality I think is very comparable.

Printed great. It's a functional model of a combination lock that you can observe the mechanism.

I used a little epoxy to permanently assemble it. I used a black sharpie to give the dial highlights.

Great print! :)

What settings did you use?

This is one of those "WOW!!" prints that are great at demos; definitely going to print one!

Go!

I second the settings question.

Just upscale all the parts 30 times?

WOW this looks awesome. Did you print it all in the same orientation as on thingiverse? The base looks like it will need a fair few supports

Wow one of the best models that I've seen on any system. Can you provide us with more details on how you created the model in software?

He printed someone else's model, it was done in Solidworks if I remember, it is described in the Thingiverse link.

Not quite as smart, but a fun little lock: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7255
:-)
A rough work-in-progress, but I really had fun making this one.

I'm printing this now, I've done the base part, and two of the wheels are printing right now. I'm doing them at 0.25 res, with minimal support, and the biggest part has come out fine, just a little filing and support removal to give a great part.

You have to scale it up into inches, though (x25.4) as the units are set wrongly.
