Post by Scott » Fri Oct 19, 2012 10:41 am

Hi Everyone.

Ive created this thread as a place for pictures of prints that are interesting but aren't really worthy of there own thread.

To get it started:

Replacement hook for skylight blind

This is my first custom print. Broken part and another from elsewhere in the house also shown in image. Tapped hole for grub screw manually.

It got too boring removing all the support material so i ended up just doing a corner. Also a portion of my print was damaged due to warping (largely due to that my up mini bed isn't flat so one side doesn't get enough plastic into the holes to hold it down. Just worked that out today)

I'm loving these prints guys! Thanks for all the updates I'm planning on getting one of these and it seems promising. I have had awesome people on the list help me and make test prints for me. I was advised that my figures are going to take the machine to it's limits but my figures will work.

These prints presented here are my figure I'm working on getting printed into ABS it's a functional piece already printed on SLS and works fine I just need the final touch of making it work and be suitable to play with via ABS plastic and needed to see if indeed it can be printed with the UP Mini.
Prints were done by Juan thanks man!

Cannot for get about Jamie Wilson from http://www.3dprintergear.com.au who graciously printed my figures as well. I'll be receiving these prints for testing as well as post production techniques. :)

This is a great design. It came out really well. I think the print is not that hard compared to most of Dizingof's stuff.

Gridded Globe with Islands Removed

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:33331

printed on up mini at 0.25mm layer height, max air, fine speed, and 10 degree support.

Image

I wanted to print it in blue but unfortunately when i changed the color the blue made a popping sound and had some blobs in the extrusion.

I think its caused by water in the ABS. I now have my ABS sitting in a plastic box with two containers of decessant. I'll see if that helps

I broke papua new guinea off with the support material and had to glue it back on with acetone.

Scott,
Loving the Globe print! looks pretty clean and considering all that empty space on the inside it printed well with all those grids printed cleanly!
Great job, :)

The globe had some support material in the center, was a real pain to remove.

Only the longest of the horizontal spans had support material. All the rest were printed via bridging. Lots had a detached strand or two at the bottom. I was still impressed anyway.

Scott was the rooster and gear made with the Up mini? Those look pretty good considering it's made with black filament :)

I'm especially loving the Globe and the fan it just looks awesome!

Everything I have posted has been made on my up mini. I was happy with how the rooster turned out. My black and orange filament are aftermarket ones. main issue i have with the black is the "whitening" when i remove the support material. I have now learnt this can be fixed with heat.

The globe took a lot of tidying but it is quite a hard model.

The turbine has a diameter of about 4cm and was printed at 0.20mm res. The photo shows defects I cant see with my naked eye. I was really impressed with its quality.

I feel my print quality has improved since i started keeping my ABS in a low humidity box.

Scott are you have trouble with the platform not being flat and the issues people are having on the forums? I'm finding alot of negative feedback about the manufacturing and it having problems.

Mine is a bit off level. Does not sound as bad as other people's though. It's a bit of a pain and I have had some prints where the raft has come detached from the perf board due to this issue. I am yet to try 1.18 beta. Hopefully it should help. I could put some paper or something between the perf board and metal clip to help level the platform. But I decided not to bother.

It's just a minor annoyance ATM. But I plan to try 1.18beta soon. Hopefully this makes the issue go away.
