Stronger Spool Arm

Post by Wolfy » Wed Sep 12, 2012 3:44 am

Greetings,

I designed this to support larger and heavier spools because I recently got a 1kg spool of black ABS and its too big and heavy for the existing arm.
It's in 2 parts because of its size. You can use hot glue or epoxy to secure the shaft in the arm. It screws into the 2 holes below where the existing arm hangs from.

Nice job Wolfy. I used your design and made a slight modification by having a 4mm hole through the pointed tip of the cylinder.

This 4mm hole accepts a screw thread instead of gluing the two pieces together. A washer placed against the arm hole then seats the screw.

I've got different length cylinders suitable for varying spool widths that can be interchanged as required.

Cool. When I made mine I had to snip the end stop and make a small extention to accomodate the 1kg spool I had. I was thinking maybe a longer grooved cylinder and a clip on end stop would work better. I like your screw approach though :)
