Formfutura Flexifil

I have been experimenting with Flexifil from Formfutura to make soap molds. Normal extrusion temp should be around 210C so that means PLA setting but that doesnt work. The flexifil would only extrude on ABS setting. On that setting it would only extrude one time and that turned out to be beginners luck.
Also I could not remove the raft. The model and raft where as one.

On PLA the filament would extrude only so much and than clog the extruder-inlet right after the PVC bearing block.
On the Inet of things I read that the gap between the extruder inlet and the little bearing should be zero or as minimal as possible.
The inlet on my extruder sits approx. 4.5mm below the black cooling block/nozzle assembly. So first I thought I need to fill that 4.5mm or redesign the filament guide.

Turns out that the filament diameter is 2mm instead of 1.75mm. That is why on PLA it clogs before it is soft enough for it to be extruded. ABS temp is high enough but well beyond extrusion temp. So I drilled out that extruder inlet tube with a 2.3mm drill. Now it will extrude at PLA setting and I can remove the raft.

First of all I admit that a temp mod will also help in finding the right extrusion temp. Only a higher temp would ingrease the chance of the raft sticking to your model.

Things to check before using the flexifil:

1. Check the filament diameter, if larger than 1.75 than try to drill out the inlet tube.
2. Is the filament spooled thight on the rol / This will ad more friction for the extruder motor to overcome.

Tip: The walls in my designs 1mm thick

Cheers

No mold release because the model is not that big nor complex. Otherwise???????
