Looks good, nice price.

What next PP3DP? Going to be too late to update UP-printer with facelifts.

Re: Cubify Cube 3
It looks interesting, but I'm skeptical of the lock-in -- proprietary print "cartridges" (the actual weight of filament is apparently low, making their per-kilo markup on the order of 5-8x standard filament pricing, based on the last-generation cartridge at $50), proprietary "cube glue" (what?) to make up for the unheated bed and so on. Just go to their website, and you'll find a $9 "cube stick" for the last generation (a rebranded $2 glue stick)!
...they're pretty clearly aiming at the inkjet printer model -- low initial cost coupled with high-priced consumables.
Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, per se, but between that and some of the stories I've heard of the first version, I'm skeptical. I don't mind a few extra bucks here & there in exchange for improved quality and ease-of-use (e.g.: I run with OEM filament), but once someone offers a $9 glue stick and a 5x filament markup I'm more than a little wary...
Then again, they just announced, so maybe my suspicions are unfounded.

3D SYSTEM CUBEPRO
http://cubify.com/cubepro/index.aspx
For me it is a nonsense that 3D SYSTEM is set to fight the impression filament in small machines low quality printing and fight for patents, I prefer to frabrique laser printers larger, not than a size of a box of teeth something ridiculous, the world needs is work, production and money, 3D SYSTEM technology should deliver good production capacity and costs of acquiring easy to sell more.

My guess the new Makerbot has a chipped print head.

Re: Cubify Cube 3
I'd be worried about a chipped print cartridge. Early reports seem to be that it takes an ordinary spool, but a lot can change in the 6+ months before it actually ships.wackojacko wrote:My guess the new Makerbot has a chipped print head.

Hmmm...only 3 months warranty as opposed to 1 year for Up, an indication of their level of confidence in their own product.

Surely you mean filament cartridge?wackojacko wrote:My guess the new Makerbot has a chipped print head.
Re: Cubify Cube 3
Yeah, A lot of new printer debuting on CES!
Statics wise I like the
Rapide One http://rapide-3d.com/design.php
and BotObjects http://botobjects.com/
Feature wise I am into printing food like the sugar cube and chocolates hmmm
I agree up plus has auto calibration (New Makerbot too) but that might not be enough to woo the crowds anymore.
In my opinion up needs a face lift, close enclosure and maybe a filament box to keep filament in best condition.
Pie in the sky * Maybe after print the enclosure also works as a object smother? by Acetone Vapor or heat huh? Yes? Yes?
no? oh well pie in the sky, how I wish you were real

Re: Cubify Cube 3
I've just left cubify and bought an Up, I had the cube 3d. It's slow noisy and cost soon much for filament. I had it for 6 months and it's currently been sent back for the 3rd time for repair.
Had the up plus 2 for a week now and I'm more than happy!
