Manual on how to create shapes

Post by Margo » Mon Jul 01, 2019 7:10 am

I'm new to this forum. I'm a teacher trying to assist a deaf student to use the Tiertime UP mini 2 printer to print a shape he designs as part of an assessment. The computer has the software on it and the printer is already set up and works, but neither of us knows how to use the software to design what he wants. Could someone please direct us to something that can help us? Thanks very much.

If you are trying to use the "Slicing" software that controls the printer to create a 3D model you cannot do that in most of them.
You can create a 3D model in a modeling program, since you are a teacher I would recommend "Tinkercad" as a free and easy to learn modeling software.
https://www.tinkercad.com/
Then after you have created the model you can "export" it or "Save As" an "STL" file, this is the "universal" type of file all slicers will accept to be printed.
I recently taught a class at the Discovery Cube in LA on how to use "Tinkercad" and how to slice the models for use in a 3D printer.
