Re: Raft less printing

Have you checked your nozzle height? Maybe this has changed for some reason. Whatever you print onto always check the nozzle is about 0.2mm from the surface you are printing onto. Go into maintenance and set nozzle height, then slip a sheet of folded paper between the nozzle and the platform/kapton/...

Re: UP displays mega model if any dimension too small to pri

It may be nothing to do with scaling. The latest software includes a size recognition. If the objects numerical size in mm is below some reference then it assumes it should have been that numerical size in inches and increases the object size by x 25.4 ! I just tried this by drawing a 0.5mm diameter...

Crystal Clear PLA prints somewhat opaque

I just bought some "Crystal Clear" PLA. Sure enough on the spool it looks crystal clear. I wanted to print a front cover for a bright LED lamp assembly. Even if I print this cover as a 0.5mm plate and as a single layer the clarity is quite poor. I am thinking this is because the print comprises fine...

Re: Has anyone had success printing the whistle, and how ?

I assume this rachard, is either on drugs, has been drinking the MEK, or thinks he is helping to market the UP printer. He needs to understand that he is NOT helping. Is there a moderator for this site?

cheers

Peter.

p.s. Just printed out a set of glasses frames for viewing 3D photos.

Re: Raftless Printing with Kapton Tape

I ordered some 80mm x 33 metres of Kapton on ebay from Best.duo.duo (China) earlier this year. Took a while to arrive, but works perfectly. I just looked and thewy still offer it.

Re: Removing the pre-print snot trail

the printer software always prints the snot trIl where the model is not. so unless your object entirely covers the base the software will not place it under the model. having said this i have only ever seen it print it from the left hand edge inwards. also i do see a software fault at times that oth...

Re: pasting and painting parts

It is interesting to note the additives between different colours of ABS. I bought some Black & "safety Red" from Makerbot. I use raft & scrap to make welding paste for parts, simply dissolving the scrap in MEK. Black and natural ABS dissolves completly and on rehardening forms a solid uniform plast...

Re: Feedrate of ABS Filament into extruder head...

Hi, The feed rate will depend soley on the demand, dependent on what is printing. I do not know what the maximum is, but guess if you set the job to Fast with 04mm layers in solid mode and measure as it prints a section in one direction that wil be the maximum rate. The minimum rate will be zero as ...

Re: 3D Printed guitar

Rather than print body as a single item, why not print top, bottom and the side as three items, then weld together with mek ?

That way no support should be needed

Or print bottom and side as one then separate top, again no support should be needed

Re: Best setting for object strength ?

Are you sure that was ABS you dunked in the actetone? I use MEK and find after a dunk of 30 seconds the ABS hardens completely within a few hours. Dunk PLA in MEK and it does not dissolve. After a while it goes sort of floppy and does not recover.

Re: Using MakerBot filament

I am running the printer at the only temperature it knows, around 260 degrees, +/-5 degrees which seems to be the range dependent on fast, normal or fine printing. I know of no way to adjust the latest printer, apart from setting it to PLA. Maybe you should try that, but I always thought that the PL...

Re: Using MakerBot filament

I have just started using Makerbot 1.75mm black ABS (1Kg on a black plastic reel) The reel is embossed "Makerbot Industries", I got the material from Robosavvy in the UK. Smells the same as the original stuff and the same as some original natural (off white) I got a few months ago. Interestingly the...

Re: Support layer issue using Google Sketchup

Jamie, I guess you are right. So I made some tests. Seems no matter how far up or down the Z axis the model is placed in the UP software. The print always commences at the bottom of the model in no raft mode and at the bottom of the raft in raft mode. Apart from asthetics the Z move function has no ...

Re: Support layer issue using Google Sketchup

I always do click auto place. else the object would not sit anywhere near the platform. This 0.2mm hover is there AFTER autoplace. Repeating autoplace does not alter its Z axis position. To see the effect, orient the view till the bottom of the object can be seen parrallel with the XY plane of the p...

Total Material window in maintenance

Is there a way to reset this total material value to zero, apart from, I guess, deleteing and reloading the software?

While I understand it can be useful for total printer thoughput I would prefer to be able to reset it when I change Spool.

Support layer issue using Google Sketchup

I print onto Kapton or a perf plate with no raft. I notice that all STLs that I generate in Sketchup "hover" 0.2mm above the platform. I can lower the object by using the Z axis shift, but if I forget, the printer seems to print a support layer, which I guess it has to do to compensate for the "hove...
