Does anyone moderate this forum?

Seems lately a lot of this junk is getting into the system.

Re: Printing with USB cable un-plugged

In the 8 months I have been using the printer on jobs running up to 7 hours I have never unplugged the USB and never had a problem; having posted this I will probably now have problems !!! The variability between users leads me to believe it is not the UP software, or unlikely their hardware. It cou...

Re: Thermoelectric Peltier cooling for PLA ?

Not tried this, but my thought was to redesign the extruder stepper location. Assuming the unwanted heat at the filament is from the motor then moving the motor out to the left and adding a longer shaft, possibly with a heat isolating coupling between the original motor shaft and the extension might...

Re: Perfboard issues

While I invariably use Kapton tape, I did try perfboard from a couple of UK suppliers. it seemed to me that on some perfoboard, the holes did not have perfectly parallel sides but had a minor taper, as it was easier to push out the ABS one way rather than the other. this may be due to the way the pe...

Re: Anyone willing to do a sample print in the UK?

Steve, I am quite happy to give it a go. I am using the UP version with feeder unit. Only mod is the extruder head bracket. The bent steel has been replaced with the milled aluminum version. If I can work out how to send a PM on this forum I will send email details. I am in Hertfordshire cheers Peter

Re: Careers and the future of 3d printing

Derek, I think you may have a good start as a 2D graphic artist. Assuming you are familiar with 2D computer graphics, the move to 3D should be reasonable. I am an engineer by training, mostly electronics in the Motion Picture industry (Rank Cintel, thence Cintel International) and now retired but ha...

Re: Wish List

Wish list item 13. If a print is cancelled before the job has actually started then undo the amount of material deducted from the maintenance menu. I just aborted, several times, a fairly large job before it started. I Could not understand why my grams of material left counter was so low then realiz...

Re: Printing thin stuff

Hi Joe, I assume you are printing these gridded "boxes" separately from the rest of the model. If so invert the model on the UP platform so that the grid is at the platform base, then you should not need any support as the grid will be the first thing printed. Else, the grid looks a bit like the loo...

Re: Up! Mini

Nick, I agree with your disappointment about the UP mini, but let us hope that developments for the original continue on this forum at least. And I guess as the software seems the same for both UPs I believe we can expect any developments there to apply to both systems. In terms of size while 140mm ...

Re: All ABS is Not created equal

Drew, Great comparison notes. There seem to be many suppliers of ABS now. Are there really as many manufacturers out there as suppliers or is it possible that there is / are only 1 or 2 manufacturers who make and extrude 1.75mm ABS and the differences are either storage or factory quality selection?...

Re: How to clean Perf board?

It is possible that the perf board you are using has some plastic in its material that the ABS is "gluing too". If you wipe or dip the perf board in MEK or Acetone does it become sticky to the touch, it should not unless it is unsuitable for using with the printer. Stickiness indicates you are disso...

Re: Wish List

Darkhorse,
My wish list is solely a request, as Marcus says, I think most of us on this forum really appreciate the software and hardware you provide, any wishes are a desire to see further enhancements that should also help not only existing user but further tempt new purchasers.

Wish List

I searched this forum for a general wish list area and could not find one, maybe I did not look hard enough. Anyway, having used the printer for about 6 months and being generally very happy with its performance I thought I would place here my wish list. I guess the software developers look at this ...

Re: UP displays mega model if any dimension too small to pri

Angus, The scale by 0.03937, rather than the 0.3907 you describe (I guess a typo) is exactly a scale of 25.4:1 . This being the number of millimeters in each inch. So what has happened is:- the model, being very small has been converted automatically, by the UP software from millimeters into inches ...

Re: Exotic ABS colors?

I know this will not help but it does raise a question. While "scrap" colored ABS is going to be difficult to obtain, I note that Faberdashery in the UK offer PLA in 1 metre lengths in a whole range of colors, or a "rainbow" sample pack of a 10 metres of each color. Now, if some enterprising company...

Re: Exotic ABS colors?

If it is ABS it will dissolve in Acetone or MEK, If it is PLA it will not. Of course some other plastics dissolve equally well in acteone & MEK, while others do not.

I guess there must be a list somewhere!

cheers
