Re: Calculator For Temp Mods

Roller suggests using the PLA setting to extend the temperature range downwards.
A question, does anyone know or has observed whether the extrude feedrate or any other stepper rate parameters are changed, in the background, when switching to PLA from ABS ?

Re: botobjects, some details at last

reading the review, i note that while reference is made to fdm and filament printers, it does not actually say whether this printer is a filament printer. it only talks about cartridges. is it possible that this printer uses a powdered pla or something that cam be metered in much smaller quantities ...

Re: [Bug?] in 1.19

Call me old fashioned, but I am sticking with V1.6, I run Windows XP pro and still use Compuserve for email. Plus I prefer car engines with carbs and points. Maybe not up to date but reliable and servicable. if you guys out there reckon V 1.7 or 1.8 is solid I might try it! cheers Peter (presently s...

Re: No filament feeder on new machines?

I would hang on to it if I were you. I have the motorized feeder and have found that it is helpful with some slightly undersized filament as it removes the continuous load from the extruder stepper which can slip with undersized material. I do not have any extruder mods to handle under sized filamen...

If you cannot ban guns, why not just ban ammunition. So all those who reckon they have the right to bear arms,do so, they just do not have the right to have any ammunition.

Re: Printer won't resume after being paused V1.18

Pause print and resume are in the Maintenance window.

Yes you can pause, then "Withdraw", change reel, then Extrude, then resume, again all under the Maintenance window

Re: Upping Noob in UK..

Hi Andy, Welcome to the UP 3D world. I run an UP Plus, have had for about 18 months. I am based in St Albans, Herts. I mainly run ABS, both OEM and others, never PLA; indeed if you want some PLA, let me know and I will send you some, FOC, that I bought from Faberdashery, their Rainbow Pack plus some...

Re: terrain models

I guess if you had a black & white representation of the terrain, where, say black = lowest, white = highest, or other way around, and gray levels show gradients then using the excellent Ransens Photo-to-Mesh software, this could be converted into a terrain relief model.

Re: Lubrication

Julia, While Jose believes WD40 is the answer, it dries to a very tacky, almost soild gunge. I know, I use it to protect a boat engine over the winter. When you spray it on, sure enough it seems like a thin grease/ thick oil. But once the solvents evaporate it forms a thick tacky seal on surfaces, t...

I agree, do not use WD40, it is a freeing and surface film agent, not a lubricating grease for bearing surfaces.

Re: Printing Real Solid parts. i.e. 100% infill

Another material that may give you strength but not be brittle is Taluman 618 Nylon. You can find many references to it on this forum. Marcus's reference to orientation is that as the printer prints infill as a lattice at 45 degrees to the platform's X & Y planes, rotating your print may give better...

Re: About build plates

Julia noted that some use Kapton Tape on Glass, You can also use Kapton Tape on the original UP Plus Anodized Aluminum table. I do all my prints raftless by this method. The tape will last for many prints.

Re: Extrusion stops mid-print

Is the environment you are working in a bit dusty? There are reports that the ABS filament will attract dust etc, presumably static as the filament is a good insulator., This dust gets dragged into the nozzle, accumulates there and can jam it up. A simple cure is to get a small piece of soft cushion...

Re: "3D Printing Doesn’t Produce Toxic Fumes"

trawling the Net it does seem that ABS is not toxic in the gas concentrations we are likely to encounter, nor carcinogenic. Yes it does smell worse than PLA, but PLA is almost not a plastic! Can't speak for over plastics. Even Carbon Dioxide or Nitrogen is "toxic" in high enough concentrations ! che...

Re: mechanical properties of printed parts

Not sure about PLA, but there are a lot of products around made of ABS, For samples get Lego, I know it will not simulate all that we print as lego is moulded and therefore has solid internals whereas our printers have layer sections and honeyconb interiors. Manufacture is yet to offer real solid la...

Re: [BUG REPORT] Uneven vertical prints

Looking at the dino image, difficult to tell exactly, but it looks as though the error is sizing not shift. Both the left end and right end seem to have layers "sticking out" at the the same horizontal plane. If so it would not a bent shaft but some stepper error. Looking at same image it also seems...

Re: BIG PLA Problems

You could be right about the heat traveling upwards from the extruder block. I note you say the stepper has not had time to heat when the extrude stops. My experience is that the extruder stepper motor is hot even in idle mode. While it may heat up a bit more in extrude mode, its standby mode, to ho...

Re: BIG PLA Problems

I do not print PLA as I found it a nightmare. An observation. I think it is still probable that the PLA is gooing up near the stepper motor. Your observation that you only get a "good" flow of PLA if the platform is a long way away from the extruder, says to me that, that the PLA flow within the ext...
