Re: Error, There is no model or support at height: 0.87 - 2.

That usually means there's a gap in the model somewhere.

Your model looks solid, but maybe there's an artifact hidden underneath (a stray surface or some other problem with the STL) causing the gap. Have you examined the STL with Netfab?

Re: Ripples in Print

Another thing you can try is printing in "fine" mode. This slows down the print speed, which decreases the amount of vibration when the head or platform changes direction suddenly.

Re: Raft Problems

To me, this looks like an extrusion problem. Have you cleaned the nozzle recently?

Other than the funny-looking raft, is it printing OK?

Re: Can not link to Printer.

If you can't see the printer in the System Information on the Mac, then the computer isn't even talking to the printer and it's not a problem with the Up software. A few things to check, and sorry if this is really basic: 1) Is it plugged in? 2) Is it turned on (switch on the back)? 3) Is the light ...

Re: Misaligned print layers

Here are photos of the problem area and the solution on my printer. I hope this is clearer than my earlier description--maybe this will help someone else in the future.

Re: Misaligned print layers

I finally solved the problem on my printer. At the suggestion of x-object, I removed the front cover and observed the printer as it was printing a model. What I found is that the plastic doohicky on the right hand side of the z-axis carriage (the "Z Fixer") was rubbing against the flange on the righ...

Re: Misaligned print layers

Hi, I just discovered something similar (though not remotely as severe) on my prints. Posting it here since the symptoms are similar, probably misaligned layers, and only the bottom few mm of parts are concerned. Yes, this looks very much like the same problem I'm seeing. Good suggestion above on c...

That had occurred to me, too, but I don't know a way to test that directly (do you?), and the x-object people are not being helpful.

Just another quick update…after further testing I'm not convinced that the problem is fixed. Improved for sure, but not fixed.

Re: Plus 2 PLA Expirence's and Woe's

Your problems are an old story, sad to say…The issue, as you know, is that PLA tends to soften at a much cooler temperature than ABS. The extruder motor on the Up tends to get quite warm just from having its coils energized, even if the nozzle is cold. And the design of the Up is such that the filam...

Re: Up won't start

AWith all of that said, I'd like to strongly encourage the makers of the up software to consider open sourcing their application. Doing so is an important step in building a large community and you'll find dozens or hundreds of people that will improve upon your product for free. Being the lead dev...

Re: Misaligned print layers

It looks like I found the problem. In case anyone has a similar problem, here's the solution--it wasn't obvious. The right hand side of the platform is held in place by a springy printed plastic clip with a couple of bearings, which rides between the walls of the right hand pillar. This is meant to ...

Re: Misaligned print layers

Just a quick update….I have sent four e-mails to x-object for support on this issue since January 2nd. After the first one I got a reply saying I should expect a response within a day, then nothing. I sent a note to support@pp3dp.com today. If I don't get some resolution soon I'm going to return it ...

Re: Misaligned print layers

It's been a few days since I've had time to work on this. Attached is a photo comparing the output of my new printer vs. my old printer. The misalignment of the print layers on the new printer is very clear even though my camera didn't focus perfectly. Both models were printed with the same settings...

I'd be worried about a chipped print cartridge. Early reports seem to be that it takes an ordinary spool, but a lot can change in the 6+ months before it actually ships.

Good idea!

Misaligned print layers

My brand-new Up Plus 2 is printing certain models with the layers misaligned by up to 0.5mm. This is affecting both the X and Y axis, and is reproducible. My 2-year-old Up Plus prints the same models perfectly, so I know this is not normal and not a problem with the STL. So far I have gone through a...

3D Christmas

This year, I designed a Christmas ornament thin enough to slip into an envelope without extra postage, printed 100 of them and enclosed them with our Christmas cards. I printed a math toy for my 2-year old nephew. My kids and all my nieces and nephews each got a little 3D doodad in their stocking. A...

My New Up Plus 2 Made my Old Up Plus Dog-Slow

I have a 2-year-old Up Plus, and just purchased a new Up Plus 2, and my new printer has made my old printer dog-slow. After I printed my first couple of models on the new printer, I did a print on my old printer and noticed that it seemed a lot slower than it used to be. The print head seemed to be ...
