Re: Afinia stops during prints

When you open the Maintenance window when the printer is stopped, is it showing an error message?

Re: partial print then air print issue

1) What kind of filament are you using, and where did you get it? Some third-party filament doesn't perform well or may even contain impurities that can clog the nozzle (though this is a lot less of a problem than it used to be). 2) What kind of environment is your printer in? ABS likes to attract d...

Re: Gaps between splitted parts

Thanks. Do you have an example on how to design joints that are concealed? I can't imagine how to conceal the joint of two blocks. A few techniques I've used are: Put the joint along the edge of some feature, so the joint just looks like a corner Cover the joint with some bit of decoration Arrange ...

Re: Gaps between splitted parts

What you're seeing is inherent to FDM printing. The problem is that this printing technique can't make perfectly flat planes and perfectly sharp corners. Thanks for the info. What kind of printing techniques do not have these issues? I suppose you could try printing it on a powder-based printer, bu...

Re: Gaps between splitted parts

Hello, due to the size of the printer, I divided a large rectangular-like object into four pieces. To fix the pieces serially on a metal plate, I use screw holes. After all four pieces were printed, I tried to combine them into one big piece. 3 pieces are already fixed to the metal plate using scre...

Re: Version 3 hotend

Shame they had to redesign the hot end. The old design worked well and was pretty well optimized. I assume they changed the design to cut cost, but saving a penny or two in the raw materials hardly seems worth messing with a solid and functional design.

Re: ERROR: "Nozzle To Hot"

But I would like to fix it with a new temperature sensor I've bought separately, because I really can't afford a new hot end. I've bought a new Da Vinci Junior which turned out to be absolute crap and difficult to return, after which I've bought this Up mini second hand, so I'm way over my budget a...

Re: ERROR: "Nozzle To Hot"

This is almost always due to a broken or damaged wire to the temperature sensor in the print head. An open circuit registers too-high temperature, and trips the fail-safe. If the wire is not quite completely broken it can occasionally register an open circuit and then work again a few minutes later....

Re: Wanting to build Kid Robot like characters

For both free and simple, you may want to try Tinkercad, https://www.tinkercad.com/ , which is browser-based and fairly easy for beginners to get into. For free (for hobbyists) and powerful, Autodesk Fusion 360 is free for hobbyists, students, educators, and small businesses, http://www.autodesk.com...

This is awesome info! Thanks!

One question: Is it possible to install a temperature mod on the extruder, or have the locked that down/sealed that up?

Re: Up Plus 2 extruder axis problems

That is a coincidense! I know that model, I tried to print it too in the past with some problems. It has all kinds of defects like too thin walls and missing bits. ....... It would seem to me he has a different issue, he stated he has printed the exact same .stl in the past with no issues whatsoeve...

Re: Up Plus 2 extruder axis problems

Just to update everyone and close the loop.... My printer was at the repair center for two months, and I just got it back this week. They never did find the cause of the print malfunctions, but the same STL printed on other printers at the repair center also exhibited the same problem, so it appears...

Re: UP BOX just arrived

Inquiring minds want to know....

What's the performance like? Does it live up to the speed/quality we've been led to expect?
What print head design does it use? Will we be able to re-use our temp mods?
Does the "box" part of the Box actually hold in the heat to reduce warping, or is mostly for show?

Re: Nozzle Overheat Alarm

I've seen this problem a few times, and it's always been a loose/broken wire on the temperature sensor causing occasional open circuits. Since you've already swapped the print heat, the loose wire isn't there. But you could have a loose wire in the same circuit which tests OK when the printer is off...

Re: Up Plus 2 extruder axis problems

Don't panic. It still could all be explained by a shorting wire ... just one ... that is pulling several components low or high when it shorts to the chassis or similar. It could also be you've pulled or knocked something loose in your search for the other issue. Pull your printer apart - reseat al...
